Sounds like you’re on the right track – the doctor should be able to help!

I’m sorry that this is so stressful; I can only imagine the kind of anxiety and uncertainty you’re dealing with right now. :/

I would definitely get it checked out, but also wouldn’t worry too much. A few years ago I made some changes similar to yours–eating differently, incorporating exercise, and although the exercise wasn’t anything too extreme, I stopped getting my period all together for about 6 months, and then it came back. The weight loss could also be playing in to it, too. 12 lbs over the course of three months isn’t too drastic, but if your body is sensitive (mine tends to be) it could be messing with your regulation. I don’t know if the home tests would work, but I would have the doc do one when you go just to play things on the safe side.

Try not to worry too much.  I actually missed a period a few months ago and had a major pregancy scare, which turned out to be nothing.  But then my periods went totally wacky for a few months after that.  I ran to the doc too because I’m a total hypochondriac who thinks everything is cancer. lol And I’ve never been irregular in my entire life. They did all kinds of tests and it turned out to be…nothing ๐Ÿ™‚  It sounds like you’re really healthy and you’ll probably be fine, but it will feel good to get confirmation.  Good luck!

I think going to the doctor is a good idea.  That way they can check for anything serious.

I have also known people who are affected by lifestyle changes such as exercise, nutrition and weight loss.  You have lost over 10 lbs, which probably is a lot of weight for you, since you have a smaller/shorter frame (my sister is just over 5 feet and weighs 116lbs or so and 10 lbs would certainly be significant for her).  Sometimes these types of changes cause your body to readjust and that may be part of it too!

Hopefully your doctor can give you some answers and ease your mind!  Good luck ๐Ÿ™‚

@sasha:  I know exactly how you feel.  I had that issue and a basal cell skin cancer on my head all at the same time (so that cancer fear ended up being a reality that time).  But it was removed without disfigurement and it wasn’t a melanoma, thank God.  And the gyn problems were cleared up too shortly after.

Worry not about the baby thing either.  I had an abortion in my 20s (took BC pills before and after) and got pregnant shortly after, had two healthy children and no miscarriages in between ๐Ÿ™‚  Sometimes our fears just create a tornado of stress in our heads. At least that’s been my experience anyway.  I try to meditate it away through my yoga practice.  Sometimes it works, sometimes not ๐Ÿ™‚

But you are not falling apart-it just feels that way right now and we all have to go through it every now and then.  I just finished a book on Buddhism and one of the central tenants is:  There can be no happiness without suffering.  It may not sound like much of a comfort, but it is if you think about it:  How would you know what happiness was unless you were miserable and suffering some of the time?  And it can only get better now, right?

Well, to impart more Buddhist wisdom, the trick is the “quiet the chattering monkey of your mind”.  Easier said than done though. Pharamceuticals can sometimes do the trick if the whole meditation thing doesn’t work for you. lol

I think when yo ugo to the dr. you should insist he do a hormone blood test on you. I think he will probably want to do this anyway, but definitley have your thyroid checked. what you outlines is almost exactly what happened to me, and that is what it was. It is very common. Are you especially cold, or losing a good amount of hair when you shower? These are also signs of thyroid issues,

It took two blood tests to find the problem for me.

I agree that you should probably go to the doctor especially since you’re so worried about it.  There’s a lot of things it could be, though it could also be nothing.

My first thought since you mentioned reducing portion sizes is that that could be what’s causing it.  It’s possible that adding workouts after reducing your portion sizes is causing you to eat too little, which can definitely mess with your periods.  You’re not underweight for your height, but if you’re already fairly muscular, then you may have lowered your body fat % to a point where it’s affecting your hormones.

My periods have only lasted 2 days for years.  I think I use maybe 4 regular tampons the whole time and I should probably go to slenders or just pantyliners.

I teach aerobics and that is what my doc contributes this to after I have had the progesterone test done.  She said that as long as it is regular she really isn’t concerned.

edited for spelling Wink

I am 41 years old this year and Asian. I started having my periods when I was 13.

My periods are pretty regular and last around 5 days. It’s the usual, heavier on the first 2 days and lighter after that.

However, this month, my period just got really light. I started with some brown spotting. Then light flow for about 2 days. Some brown spotting for about 2 days and now, just white colorless discharge.

I am most certainly not pregnant and I am not on any medication. Not on the pill or any other contraceptives.

I am about 5’6 and weighs 120 pounds.

I don’t exercise and I am not in any stress at all.

I am really puzzled … am I going through menopause at age 41? But I don’t have any symptoms of menopause at all!

Any advice appreciated! Thank you very much!
