Here to VENT! And I always seem to get great advice here ! I was just diagnosed with Vestibular Migranes. Basically instead of headaches, the world spins around me. I have mild days and extreme days – just like people do with regular migranes. I went to a specialist today and he said ideally I would be off all pills, including birth control pill. He said that this type of migrane already puts me at a higher risk of stroke and that adding hormonal birth control puts me at an even higher risk. But I shouldn’t just stop taking the pill without talking to my OBGYN.
He is also putting me on a daily medication that should help with these symptoms until I am able to make a decision for my birth control. I’m wanting to get an appointment with a gynecologist (mine retired in December so I need to find a new one) to discuss some options.
Obviously I don’t want to have a stroke, so we are trying to decide what to do. I don’t really like the sound of an IUD but I don’t know much about non-hormonal birth control. I’m considering staying on the pill until we get married this September and then re-visit. But that feels so risky! I just hate to be learning a new birth control right before we get married! It’s funny because on Monday we had to take a class on the Creighton method of birth control and we left thinking, “no way!” and now we’re considering it. But we also don’t want to get pregnant anytime in the next 5 years!! I’m not sure the natural family planning methods will work for that long…
I can’t believe this is happening right before we get married!! If anyone has experience with either these migranes or non-hormonal birth control, I’d love to hear stories. Not feeling so great about all this right now.
