It’s been QUITE a while since I’ve signed in (silently lurking though). Grad school is kicking my ass right now!
Anyway, long story short, I had a friend who worked for a great video company and I talked Darling Husband into using them. Friend left the company (but still came back to shoot our wedding – was very professional about transitioning out of the company and assuaging my fears about what would happen after he left).
3 months later, I called and checked. They said the contract was for 6 mo (which is true) and there were 4 other weddings in front of ours before they could edit, but would prob. be done in 2 mo.
2 weeks ago I called. Nobody answered but I left a message saying “hey, our 6 mo. contract is up in a few days, just want an update.”
No call back.
Now my Darling Husband is pissed b/c I talked him into a product that he didn’t want, and haven’t even received, and he wants me to call them and get our $ back. I’m not very good at being “crazy bride” and I understand it takes time to get this stuff done. Plus, I don’t want them rushing to finish the video and end up with a bad product. I’m thinking I might ask for the raw footage as well, or maybe some still shots, but I don’t know about asking for $ back. How would you guys handle this?

Keep it peaceful for now since it just recently passed. Say, I was owed XYZ by this date and have not received anything. Please provide some raw footage as well as an updated estimated timeline. Give them the benefit of the doubt first.
If you don’t hear anything for another week or two, I would have a lawyer send an email as a threat (hopefully this can be done for free) stating that you will take them to court for your money back in violation of the contractual agreement they signed with you.
Hopefully they will come through and will appreciate your attempt to keep it peaceful. Also if it does resort to taking them to small claims court, you can show that you even gave them some flexibility. Make sure to document all correspondences you have.
You can also leave bad reviews on sites like weddingwire.com, theknot.com, weddingreports.com so this won’t happen to anyone else!

Luckily, the friend through whom we booked called me back just now. He said he spoke with someone there and that the film was in its final stages and should be ready this week. I’m feeling much better, and now have an answer for Darling Husband when he asks. I really didn’t want to go the “bargaining route” anyway – I feel bad asking people for services and products that I haven’t paid for, and I’m really bad at “flipping out” on people just to get what I want – I’m pretty chill by nature. I’m glad our friend was able to mediate this for us. Let’s hope we have a video by Friday!
