Hey ladies,
I’m new around here and totally loving all the tips, tricks, photos, ideas, etc. Great to share, learn from others and get advice!
Our current debate is whether we should spend the money on a videographer or not. We were told that it would probably be approx $2500 (Canadian) and since we’re paying for a lot of the wedding, that seems steep to us.
I’m the type that would watch it a gazillion times the first year and then probably only once a year on our anniversary after that! My fiance would prob watch it a couple times the first year and then every year on our anniversary cause I will make him. lol!
He’s way more budget-conscious and wants to stay within our agreed budget. I’m ok with going a bit over if it’s something that we may regret later and I’m thinking that we may regret not getting a videographer.
It’s funny cause he’s the emotional type that keeps things for sentimental value and I’m emotion, but I don’t keep things just to have them around. So, I guess the budget is winning in his mind with this one. lol
Thoughts??
Or can anyone reccommend a videographer that’s cheaper? 😀

@LoveMyMoriLee: That is indeed the question. I am torn with the same dilemma. Aaarg…
The Love of my life recommended getting a student to do with. But, I dont know if I trust that route. The saga continues.

I think I would watch the video once, and I doubt Fiance would watch it at all unless I forced him to. Thus, no video for us. We did splurge on a great photo package because that’s what we would appreciate over time.

@Butterfly6: I hear ya! I wish we could find someone to do it much cheaper, but then it wouldn’t be edited and I may as well have my fiance’s brother or someone else do it. lol But in that breath, I also don’t want to ask a guest to be a videographer, they need to enjoy the wedding… ARGH is right!

@littlemisst08: That’s a good way to look at it!! I’m def more about the photos and we got a good package for that too. But I don’t want the day to be over and I’m thinking “why didn’t we get video of this”. I’ve watched the video from my brother’s wedding (where I was a BM) many many times and it’s only been a year!

This is such a personal choice and I’m sure that you will get answers across the board. My opinion is to say YES to the video, but shop around for a lower price. We snagged ours for $1500 after months and months of hunting for someone within our budget. I love my video. I watch it constantly, but I am the type of person who will watch home movies all day on a rainy day so I knew that video would be important to me. I personally appreciate and love moments that can’t be caught by a photograph. And just because I love sharing it, here’s my highlight video:

Video! You won’t regret it. I’ve watched mine about 20 times since I received it. Even if you only watch it once a year, pictures just can’t capture the same feeling. Also, the day goes by so fast, it’s nice to actually see the ceremony and speeches, since I can barely remember them. It’s totally worth it!

My Future Mother-In-Law said it was the one regret she had on her wedding day is not recording it. She said that the ceremony can go by in a whirl of emotion that you probably wont remember it. Thats defiintely going to be true for me! However , we’re not going to get it professionally done, it’s like $5000 in NZ. Someone is just going to record the ceremony and speeches for us on normal camera. Cheap I know and the white balance will be all off! (haha i have no idea what im talking about) But even if its crap I want to watch it every now and then

@Sarahbear: That’s cute and you will still be happy that you can watch it every now and then… doesn’t matter what the quality is like! The memory is the emotion!!

I wish we had hired a professional videographer. We had a tripod set up with our own camera and my Father-In-Law recorded the whole thing on his, but I’m not thrilled with what we ended up with.

We bought a Flip camera ($100) and had the fiance of my Maid/Matron of Honor sit close to the front. That way we have a video recording of the ceremony, even though it’s definitely not fancy. I can hear myself, Darling Husband, the officiant and the readers and see everyone clearly, so it’s good enough for me! There’s definitely a compromise between $2,500 on video and no video at all!

@jo.lee: You are totally right! I might try to find someone for around $1000 and forego all the fancy shmancy stuff…
