Brides who didn’t get a videographer: do you regret your decision?
I like wedding videos that are all fancy and cool, but we don’t have room in the budget for something like that. One of FI’s uncles usually videotapes all the family weddings in the church, but that’s about it. That seems like it’d be fine for me, but of course I’m hooked on all the pretty wedding trailers and whatnot …
I just want to make sure I don’t make a bad decision. I’m a big photography girl, but I don’t know how often I would watch a wedding video.

I was on the fence on this – and some friends ended up shooting it – 4 different angles and they edited it together. I didn’t need the fancy/creative stuff – but I wanted the wedding and I just saw some of the footage today and I’m SO glad I ended up having them do it. The moments go by SO quickly and you really get to re-live the experience. I think it’s definitely worth the expense.

i want a videographer for the same reasons oracle mentioned…. i’m planning on getting a few friends to cover the footage and i’m gonna edit it myself…

I really wonder what brides will say to this question! We are in the process of booking a videographer right now, mainly because of this potential regret. My mom guilted me too! (“Don’t you want your children to one day see a video of their parents getting married?”). Ugh!

@neontl: My mom is the exact opposite! When we mentioned FI’s uncle was recording the ceremony for sure, she was like, You’ll never watch that, You don’t need to hire a videographer that’s a waste of money blahhhh.
So I’m interested to hear everyone’s responses too!

We just don’t have the money. We’re going to have someone record it for us and edit it later too. Although I like this thread because now I’ll probably try to find two people to record it at least to get a couple of different angles.

I kept wavering because of the expense. I really didn’t have anyone to tape it for me. I hired the guy 2 days before the wedding because I had some budget free up. I am soo glad I did. There are so many things that just wouldn’t translate in a picture. Everyone I spoke to said they maybe watch their video on their anniversary and that’s it, but it is wonderful to have. Keeping my fingers crossed I’m happy with it!

We didn’t and I don’t regret it at all. Actually I had a friend tape the ceremony and I have never watched it.

I was very happy that I had a video made. I loved getting to see the ceremony again and to her our homily which was done by my husbands priest uncle. It was also nice to have to show his brother and his wife who couldn’ make the wedding due to the birth of a premature baby overseas and his grandparents who were too ill to come.

We booked videography 3 weeks before our wedding and I am SO happy we did. I am in love with our highlights reel and it showed me moments I didn’t see or forgot. I can’t wait to see our full length film. Just fyi for all the people saying they don’t think they’ll watch a 30 minute film all the time, most packages come with highlights reels that are only like 3 minutes long, and you can definitely watch them over and over!

I didn’t want a videographer at first, but I’m now glad we did it. The day really does fly by, and the video captured a lot of things that I missed/didn’t remember.

We did. I wasnt originally going to..always crossed it right off my budget as i thought it was “silly” and that i would never watch it. I found a guy for free on craigslist though and figured..what the heck?! did it and have NEVER looked back…pics are great but i look at the video 110% more then the pictures…its just captures so much more!

We didnt and I dont regret it. I love watching other brides day of videos, but it wasnt in our budget and I didnt really find it necessary! I HATE seeing myself on video anyways so I wouldnt have liked to watch a video of mostly me! If you thnik you will regret it, then get it! However, I love my pictures and feel they capture a lot of emotion. I had a few guests videotape the ceremony and I still havent even seen those videos!

It would have been cool for our future children to watch, but honestly, I just didn’t want someone with a video camera following me around all day and in my face. I think photography plus videography is overkill. Our good friend shot our ceremony and toasts/first dance, and that’s good enough for me!

We are hiring a videographer. We also hmmed and hahed this decision because of budget but I think that I would totally regret not having one of the biggest days of our life on video. Yeah it is expensive now, but in the grand scheme of things, it will be worth it in the long run! One of the videographers we interviewed put it in a good way, he said “If you are one of those people who love watching wedding videos and cry and get teary eyed, then you should have it, but if you are one of those people who don’t like watching wedding videos and get bored easily, then it is probably not for you.”
@Baileyh: Love your trailer!! Amazing. You got that for FREE? Lucky!
