Hi wedding bees!
When planning a wedding there are aspects that we each consider top priority. For me it’s high quality photography (even though I havn’t booked anyone yet). But I also want a great video to capture the sights and sounds of the day…but without breaking the bank.
For those who have booked a videographer, any suggestions? And for any brides who did get a wedding video, do you watch it or is there anything that you would do different?
My wedding wil be half way between Charlotte and Boone so I’m looking at vendors all over the area. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

I almost didn’t get avideographer because we wanted to spend most of our money on our photographer (baccuse we are both photographers). I’m SO SO glad we did though. We used Visual Elegance from Greenville SC but they travel anywhere! They were great. However that said if you can’t afford a great videographer I wouldn’t get one at all. We have worked with videographers quite a few times that were always in our way and wouldn’t stay out of our shots, it was miserable.
Here is our video if you want to see it though: http://meettheburks.com/personal/our-wedding-video-mcconnells-sc/
Sorry for any typos I’m on my phone 🙂

@heatherburks: Thanks so much for the info. A video is in our budget but since we are still early in wedding planning, we are trying to take the time to find the right one that isn’t too expensive all while making sure do we REALLY need one. I would hate for us to sign up with a videographer and then other aspects of the wedding costing more than we expected. I’m speaking with my venue this weekend to double check on any “hidden” costs. So much to consider when planning! I will check out the videographer you suggested. Thanks again!

@heatherburks: omg I love your video. I’m trying hard to figure out how we can work videography into the budget. There’s just some things photos can’t capture. Do you mind pm-ing me and telling me a little about your experience with visual elegance?

Do it. if you want to go the budget route – do what I did. I posted an ad on craigslist saying I could only pay $150.00 for a videographer. I said I would take amateurs, people who haven’t done weddings, but I wanted to see examples of any work they had done.
I got over 100 responses, all willing to do it for $150.00 and a lot of good options.
I finally decided on a guy who was really awesome and reliable and ended up giving us a great video in the end. Seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10zSIbcmj8o&feature=share
Totally worth a shot!

@beargoose Yeah I definitely will!!
@coffeyka I would definitely make sure everything fits in first that is important to you I agree. We booked videography last to make sure we had room!

I had videography, and I am so glad that I did. However, when I signed contracts with both my videographer and photographer, I automatically just selected the ones that my venue recommended and were present at one of our venue’s semi-annual tasting events. Although both gentleman are very nice and very talented, neither really delivered the type of product that I have subsequently seen on WB and wish I had known about. I love my video, but it is not at all like a mini feature film, like some of the videos I’ve seen posted here are. However, I have no idea how much one of those types of videos actually costs.

@KateByDesign: WOW your videographer was FANTASTIC! and even moreso for $150!!! Do you mind sending me the wording of the ad you posted so I can do the same?! I’m getting quotes from videographers around my area in the $2k-$3k mark and I’m so distraught but your luck has given me hope! 😀

We are having professional photography, along with an artistic 5-6 minute highlight video of our special day. That’s it. And it fits our budget, so we’re happy! 🙂
There’s something very special about moving images and being able to “re-live” that moment. I know people that splurged on full videography packages, and they don’t regret it at all.

@KateByDesign: You’re video is fabulous! I actually found a company in Charlotte that would do a similar video for under $1,000 but your idea is worth a shot. I just want to make sure that we have a high quality video, similar to yours. Can you send me a PM as well with the wording for your Craigslist post? Thanks!

@KateByDesign: I’m in the DC Metro area myself so I will hit up the guys who did your video. But, just in case their rates have gone up since then, can you please post or send the wording you used to me as well? Thanks much!

Hey guys, I really don’t remember what I said exactly – mainly because I posted on there for every vendor I was looking for. I just put my wedding date, general location, and the amount I could pay. I made sure not to post my venue or any personal information that could be taken advantage of on such a public site.
I then asked for samples of work, even if they weren’t wedding related. I got about 100 responses and a lot of good options.
Good lucky, girls!

I booked a videographer! I saved a lot of money by booking a guy who is recently out of college but does excellent work (look: http://vimeo.com/mgwisni)
But it was really important to me to have video. I think it will allow me to return to the moment more deeply than just photos.
I’d say check out film schools in your area and ask if any of the students have shot a wedding. there are some really talented people jsut starting out that you could likely afford

@KateByDesign: Oh my goodness!!! I am a Fairfax VA bride and cannot afford to pay More than a couple hundred for a videographer!! What is the name of the people who did yours? That’s an awesome video!!!! 🙂
