ETA: Not the bride – sort of bridesmaid, but not required to wear specific dress. Bride just wants us all fabulous!
I’m going to a wedding in September and I really want a vintage or vintage-inspired (ideally 50’s-ish cut) dress that would be fancy enough for an eveninng wedding. So much of the stuff I’m finding in my preliminary google searches just seems too casual. I have such a clear vision in my head but am having a hard time finding it. Would spend up to $200, but not more.
I know there are some vintage fab ladies here. Would love any advice!

Collectif do really cute vintage inspired clothes. Mind the UK sizing (different than US) but they’re definitely one to check out. I’ve had a couple of their dresses, and they’re really nice quality!
ETA: with shipping, they may get close to your $200 budget, depending on the exchange rate :/

Would you mind posting a pic of something that’s along the lines of what you want?

nothing: Edit — realized that you are a guest, not the bride in this one, so changing my response — check out etsy for some great vintage options!

dances123:
I love this one but they’re sold out in my size.

I also love this one but it’s too expensive. I mean I guess my ultimate vision is vintage-y A-line-ish with a material that looks fancy enough to fit in at a fancy wedding. Sorry I’m having a hard time putting it into words exactly!

Here’s Ellie by Leanne Marshall. The sleeves could be hemmed if you like short sleeves.
ETA Oops! I thought you were the bride as well.

Now to answer your actual question: most of my wardrobe is vintage. I just go to vintage stores. Since the selection always changes though you have to go frequently–it’s hard to go in wanting a specific item.
Modcloth has some 50s-inspired nice dresses.

dances123: I have been scouring local vintage stores but lately haven’t been able to find anything fancy enough. I guess that’s the real problem. Lots of cute stuff, nothing so far that I feel will make me look fab enough. I have a few months, I’ll keep trying. Thanks! 🙂

Etsy. Search by your modern size and you can narrow it down from there. I have bought many vintage dresses on etsy, just be sure you know your measurements!

Check out Dolly Couture! She is seriously AMAZING. I’ve been buying dresses from her since high school… If I didn’t design my own wedding dress she would be my FIRST pick! She has awesome patterns and colors too… All vintage cuts and styles!

ALSO check out Bettie Page clothing… That store is KILLER… as well as Fables by Barrie… Barrie is SUCH a dollbaby and her clothing ROCKS. They are pretty much the only places I shop when I need a special-occasion dress.

They have lots of other vitage dresses also. PPs are right….Etsy has a lot of great shops that can do custom dresses for you too!! I would totally recommend checking them out 🙂

Even though it looks like you have already been to all these sites:
Here are my favorite sites, I am not sure what they have in fancier dresses in stock right now.
Unique Vintage
Modern Pinup
Jackdaw Landing
You can also try Pinup Girl Clothing, but they are on the pricy side already and a fancier dress will cost more.
In general, a dress with an overlay is going to cost more, since it’s pretty much 2x the fabric. You may have better luck with something satin. I ususlly see fancier dresses on the pinup sites for the winter holidays, so it’s the wrong season.
You can also do a google search for Tea length party dress or Vintage style tea lenght dress.

nothing: I’d search ModCloth. They always have vintage inspired items!
