Since it’s in a kids room, what about gutting it, putting a little curtain up and turning it into a puppet theatre?

ETA – You could also be a bit tongue and cheek: gut it, put a back on it, and put some shelves inside and turn it into a bookcase 🙂

For some reason, my first thought was Light Bright. I don’t know why, lol. Probably not good for a baby’s room though, lol. I saw a pic on a blog once where they had several tvs, maybe 3, without their screens and innards, stacked on top of each other and used as a shelf. Maybe you could turn it into a little toy shelf or something?

@sand dollar: My friend had the same TV. She took out the tube and replaced it with a fishtank!!! but since your fishies die, i would go with puppet theatre too!

What about taking the screen out and putting in a roll of paper horizontally so a kid could draw on it? You’d need a piece of wood or cardboard backing.  Maybe with hinges like the back of a photo frame?

Or you could put a light inside and get a huge piece of decorative paper to go where the screen is. Paper Source has some huge vellum paper. And then put in some cool light that you can program with different colors and things.

I don’t have any ideas cooler than yours…

But I must say, what a blast from the past! That is the exact same TV set that my grandparents had when I was growing up with them!! Last I saw it, it still worked. I often actually wonder what happened to the thing.

Post pictures when you’re done!
