- Wedding: July 2009
My wedding is 7/2/09 (yes, on a Thursday) at Elk Creek Winery in Owenton, KY. It’s about an hour from where I live in Cincinnati. My first choice of venue was taken by my cousin who is getting married in October. I wanted to have something different from hers so by fiance and I found a winery with lodging onsite. It’s half way between my family and his (Louisville). We’ve gone from immediate family and a few close friends (i.e. 30 people) to family and a few close friends (i.e. 70 guests). We’ve only been engaged since March so planning last minute and being forced to make a LOT of decisions all at once has taken it’s toll on me! I always imagined a very small destination wedding but my fiance definitely wants to do something a little more traditional. I’m doing a vintage country theme. The winery is very rustic and we love old things so we decided to build from that. Our centerpieces are a grouping of things and each one will be slightly different. The tableclothes are white linen and we’re going to use a vintage doily or napkin on each table to set the stage for the centerpiece. On that will be a mason jar (or an old glass milk jug with our family name on them) filled with various summery flowers (sunflowers, daisies, dahlias, etc). We’re going to tie those with rafia. We’re also going to place some sort of vintage dish (small crocks, milk glass, small creamer pitchers) on each table filled with candy. We love old photographs so each table will have a small bi-fold rustic frame with a picture of he and I as kids. Our table numbers will be cardstock with the table number on one side and a vintage postcard on the other (I collect them). I thought that might be overkill but I set up a table with an example centerpiece and I love it. We’re in the process of figuring out how we are going to do the table numbers (i.e. layer different papers or just have one solid color) and also finding some small rustic/vintage frames for pics. We’re also using an I-Pod for music instead of hiring someone. We’re big concert-goers so we’re going to use songs from all the bands/artists we’ve seen together since we’ve been dating. We want our guests to see our music list so we are thinking of doing menus with the actual menu on one side and the music list on the other.
For our cards we want to use a vintage mailbox and for our seating chart we want to use a chalkboard with all guests names handwritten.
Would love to hear similiar diy ideas or draw some inspiration from others….
