We are thinking of going to Western VA for a mini-moon after our wedding in NYC on Oct 9. We would be going for 3 nights and don’t think we should really go South of Roanoake since it brings it above a 7 hr drive. We were thinking of getting a B&B in Lexingoton or Staunton since there would be places to get dinner, but we would still be able to easily get to the mountains/wineries. Do those sound like ok places to stay? Does anyone have any other suggestions? Any other ideas for fall things to do? We don’t know the area at all and would appreciate any help. Thanks!

I went to college in Staunton at Mary Baldwin. The valley is absolutely gorgeous that time of year. I enjoy driving out to Waynesboro and driving Skyline Drive. There’s also usually a fall festival in the area. If you’re staying in Staunton, I highly recommend the Stonewall Jackson and the Blackfriar’s theater next door. The town itself is super quirky and really low key. If you decide to visit the valley, I’d book early though. Hotels fill up fast in October since it’s tourist season.

We just booked the Stonewall Jackson for our guests for our Aug 2012 wedding! Does anyone have suggestions for caterers in the area?

@meganmars: What kind of food are you going for? I know there are some FANTASTIC restaurants that cater along Beverly and the off streets.
