@DaneLady: *hugs* That really sucks! Please do take it easy. There will be other marathons and this one isn’t worth hurting yourself even more!

I’m sorry! *hugs* I broke my toe a few years ago about a month before a big issue, and in the end I had to drop out of the show because the pain was just so extreme. Your health and healing is the most important thing, and you are right that there will be other marathons!

That really sucks.

You might want to think about biking or water training for the time being.  It should help maintain your fitness in case you are able to run.

If your toe allows it, and your doctor approves, and you are absolutely sure you’re okay with still running… get a carbon footplate, which is put under the insole of the shoe and prevents the ball of your foot from bending, preventing your toe from bending and causing further injury in the fracture. If you do this, consider new shoes with the most forefoot rocker (example- mizuno prophecy forces a quick toeoff, but more for heel/midfoot strikers, but any shoe where you feel the roll off the toe isn’t bad).  Good luck!!!!!!!!
