Will you have a car?  I haven’t ever been to Fort Bragg, but I suspect it would be rather boring without one.  I don’t think you’d be in trouble wandering the base as long as you stay out of restricted areas, but I’m not sure what you’d do for an indefinite period!

I just left Fort Bragg….my husband and I left and came to Fort Lee, VA. We were there for 5 years. What do you like to do? Fort Bragg is a pretty big post (2nd biggest). Raliegh is about an 1 1/s away. It’s just depending on what you are use to and what you like to do.

I’m in the military, and although I’ve usually been on Navy or Air Force bases, most of them have a lot to do…but I would suggest you have access to a car.  I get bored with the Exchange/AAFES pretty quickly. 🙂

There’s always the bowling alley and gym and other MWR facilities, too.

I live in Fayetteville just outside of Fort Bragg. It depends on what you like to do.  Without access to a car its going to be tough to do much of anything.  Its a big base, there are some things within walking distance on base depending on where he lives.  Most activities will require a car to get to. The mall, movies, downtown Fayetteville are all far enough away you would have to drive.  Downtown Fayetteville can be kinda neat- antique stores, craft stores etc.  There are also some bad areas so you probably want to be cautious about where you go.

What do you usually like to do when you visit a city?  I can give some more recommendations if you let us know what you like.

I use to the military life, so I don’t think it’s fun being on post…..it’s nothing but the bowling alley….you can’t go shop at the PX unless you have a dependent ID. The mall is on Skibo road where most of the stuff is….you might like it.

Ok well with a car you have more options.  On base there is a bowling alley and an ice skating ring.  Fortbraggmwr.com is the bases website that has info on concerts, fairs, the bowling alley etc.  Off base theres a bunch of stuff

Cross Creek Mall- smaller local mall, basic stores and food court

There are a couple regular movie theaters in town.

Downtown there is

Cameo theater: Movie theater that serves beer and wine, only shows one or two movies at a time.  They also host a improv comedy group every other Saturday.

Antique stores: The cotton exchange is the big one, but there are a ton of them on Hay St/downtown.

4th friday of every month there is a quasi street festival downtown- performers, shops open late offering sales etc.

Climbing Place: rock climbing gym downtown also offers trapezee type lessons.

Airborne and Special Ops Museum: Smaller museum, but kinda neat to walk through at least once.

There are also

Several city run parks with tennis courts, disc golf courses etc

Cape Fear River Trail: A 4 mile walking trail

Jump Raeford a skydiving center

If the bar thing is what you enjoy there are soooooo many lol

Itz is the biggest- its a complex with a sports bar, cigar bar and dance club all connected.

Downtown there is Huske hardware (they brew their own beer)

Wet willies (kinda attached to huske, a frozen drink/dance club place)

There’s literally a million others- depends what kind of bar you like.

I agree that you need to get your dependant ID in order to be able to get into anything on base by yourself.  So make that a first priority.

Not sure about your base, but the base I work on, you need to have an ID in order to even get on the base so I would check with your husband to be sure that Bragg isn’t as locked down.

You can get on post without an ID card, you just have to get checked before they let you on. Just go through the non-id card lane. Also, you can tell your Fiance to get you a vistors pass, so you won’t have to get checked every time you come on post. If your Fiance is with you, you don’t have to get checked, but if you are by yourself you will get checked. Checked meaning the will have you stop and look through your car and check your license, insurance, and registration.
