@MissCalifornia: I just wanted to say that is a beautiful venue! I stayed there on business once. The food was delicious, too!

The only other thing I was going to suggest that you ask is if there is any type of hotel tax on top of the NY state sales tax.  I know I always have to pay that to STAY at a hotel, but I don’t think I’ve ever had to pay a hotel tax to EAT at a hotel, so I decided not to mention it earlier.  Other than that, I think your list is pretty comprehensive, since you already plan to ask about what types of decor they allow, if they allow an outside baker for your cake, etc. I presume you already know what type of bar you want and how that will be priced. (For example, DH and I did not want to serve any alcohol — other than to have a single, champagne toast, with an option for guests to select sparkling cider if they preferred), so our “open bar” only included sodas, iced tea, juices, club soda, etc. However, some venues actually require you to pay for a full open bar, even if you are having something less than that, or they will only give you a very small discount.  One venue offered to only take off $2 per person if we did not have alcohol.  The venue we selected gave us a $12 discount per person because we did not serve alcohol. (We picked incredible food and still spent almost $20K on that venue, so, I don’t think they suffered too much because of it! lol)

I hope you have fun at your appointment!

Definitely bring a camera!  We did, and even though we clearly remember it, our parents loved seeing the photos and getting the feel of the place where we’ll be getting married.

Ask about any restrictions they have at all (here in DC, a lot of the historic places don’t let you serve red wine, etc).

Good luck!  I hope you love it more than you already do!

Ask what they add gratuity to. My venue adds gratuity to everything including chair covers! Also ask if there’s a cake cutting fee.

One that I didn’t see in standard question lists – can you show me pictures of previous weddings? It really helped me get a feel for weddings in various locations which went above/beyond website pictures.

Also we asked about doing a tasting before booking, prices for kids/vendor meals, options for indoor vs outdoor ceremony, and if service charge is included in package price or if they add a mandatory service charge amount tocthe quoted price (sometimes this added 21%!)

@MissCalifornia: And, above all, when considering the budget, don’t forget to ask what the service charge is.  It’s usually like 18-20 perecent on top of the per person price quoted, plus the tax.

ETA — I see some others also just posted about this, too.

@MissCalifornia: YAY!! I thought you’d like it! And I didn’t even see the ballroom when I was there!
