I can’t help you with your specific questions but we used Vistaprint and I loved how they turned out!!! Good luck!

I didn’t know they had foil stamping.  Is that something you could buy at a craft store and apply later?

Yes they only send a premade sample kit, but it gives you an idea of paper types.

I have used them several times for holiday cards and other paper products I have designed so I knew what to expect.  You could make your save the dates or just order 10 invites to see what you think.

We had a very small wedding so only needed 20 invitations, the cost was pretty low so if they had turned out badly, we could have easily reordered. I like MissKayaker’s idea of ordering just a few to make sure you like them!!

redredwine:  I got my sample kit from vistaprint a couple weeks ago. It went right in the trash. There were very few samples and nothing I was looking for.. and def had no foil samples, so don’t bother waiting for it.

I haven’t used them, so can’t offer much advice other than that I would give them a call (or email) and simply ask the question: “Is it metallic ink or actual foiled stamped invites?”

If you request it they may be able to give you a sample (it may not be the actual invite you want but it will show you the quality of the foil stamp.

FYI if you hate your vistaprint order and call customer service, they’re wonderful about making it right.

I used vistaprint but did not do foil.  However, my invites looked exactly as they did in the photo, so it makes sense that if your photo is good, your result will be as well.

redredwine:  there’s a trick to using Vistaprint. You’ll need two email addresses to use, preferably both junk emails. I set up a wedding junk email and used my regular junk email. One email you can use to get their wedding samples and the other you’ll want to use to get their business emails. The wedding emails are always higher priced than the business emails. The business emails will give you tons of freebies and very good deals on invites. I got free totes for my BM’s, hats, pens, t-shirts, post cards (which I used for thank yous and response cards). It’s easy to find creative uses for all the freebies they send. Also, check couponcabin.com, sometimes they have links to stuff for 70% –  90% off, which rarely comes in emails. I got my invites 90% off from a link on there.
