My fiance and I won a free honeymoon through a contest I entered us in. The choice is either Bahamas, Mexico and Dominican Republic. We decided to go to the Bahamas. I have been reading reviews, and have only seen negative comments about the resort. Being on a strict budget, this free honeymoon was a God send, but I am scared that it won’t be the honeymoon I have always dreamed of based on the reviews. Anyone ever been to this resort chain?

🙁 Are the reviews for the other resorts (in the other countries) the same? Or is it too late to change your choice?
Maybe you could scope out other resorts in the area and if need be skip out on the last few days of the free honeymoon in lieu of staying somewhere nicer but still utilize the free airfare, etc?

I agree with daydreamwanderer – perhaps you can just use the airfare, stay at the resort for a few days, then transfer to another resort if you don’t like it? Like another one in the Bahamas? Since you will already be there, it would be easy to switch. I would find out what the stipulations surrounding the free honeymoon are. They can’t force you to stay there if you don’t like it.

I’ve been to the resort when I spent a few months in Freeport for work. I’m not gonna lie- Freeport is not my favorite island in the Bahamas- it’s a lot more industrial and not as pretty as most of the other islands. That being said the water is warm & gorgeous and there are a few nice places if you search them out….

Thanks guys, and sorry for my delayed response. I’ve been so caught up in the holiday festivities, I have not been able to stalk WB like usual. I will take all of you guys advice. FI and I thought about having a backup plan just in case things did not work out at the hotel.

Hmmm. We’ve stayed at the Pelican Bay Lucaya for two years in a row. It’s not amazing, in our opinion, but it’s rated as one of the highest on the island. Honestly, I’d stay there and just use the free airfare, but it all depends on your budget!

Airfare isn’t included in the package. It is strictly 2 nights, 3 days accomodations and that’s it. We may book another honeymoon and use that trip for a getaway.
