My Fiance and I will be writing our own, and we are not sharing them with each other before the ceremony. I’m a little worried that they will be so radically different from each other (like mine will be all sappy and his will be funny) that it might be weird, but oh well.

I’ve been looking online at other peoples’vows, love quotes, etc. and at past letters & emails we’ve written to each other for inspiration. I also made him a scrapbook of our first year together for our first anniversary, so I’m going to look through there for my inspiration, too. I want my vows to give a picture of why I love him, and I think that part will be easy. The harder part for me is putting the emphasis on how I will always love him, and not having it sound sappy or cliche.

ugh! he is getting a letter from me and im going to make that as heartfelt as possible – i am no where near creative enough to write my own vows. plus getting up in front of people is difficult as it is – i could never remember them! i hope i remember the ones i’ve memorized.

Three cheers to you women who can and are writing your own vows! i am very impressed. it always makes me cry when couple write their own vows.

@missmichigan: I will try, but I will definitely have them written down on a card so I can just read them. Who knows what will happen when I get up there, and I’m all emotional and nervous, lol!

We wrote our own vows, but they were not a surprise.  We sat down and decided on a ‘formula’ to follow so they were similar but not the same.  This way we didn’t end up with weirdly unsimilar vows (e.g. one is really long and sappy, one is short and funny).  However, we picked surprise readings for one another instead so that there was still a surprise!

No, we did not write our own. Here were our vows.

I take you as my friend and love, beside me and apart from me, in laughter and in tears, in conflict and tranquility, asking that you be no other than yourself, loving what I know of you, trusting what I do not know yet, in all the ways that life may find us.

@missmichigan: oh no! i didnt mean too! i just know me and writing is not my forte and i’m probably even worse at public speaking.

Im sure you will do wonderfully! i’ve been struggling with speeches for the rehearsal for my BM’s and such and i realize that i come up with AMAZING ideas when im laying in bed at night – so i keep a little notebook and jot stuff down if i think of something, like a fun memory or how much that person means to me- it seems my best ideas come when im not really thinking about it (or when i dont have any paper!)  – that way i have some ideas and i can sit down gather my thoughts and write it out better later.

We are writing our own vows. I’m so excited to hear what he is going to say. I’m nervous but the positive thing is that my dress has pockets so I can keep the piece of paper in my pocket!

@missmichigan: Thanks! I can’t remember who I got them from – it was one of the Blogger Bees I believe but I loved them.

We’re writing the ceremony, but not the vows. We’re a bit shy!
