The officiant we found online emailed me about 30 pages of different options for the ceremony and vows.  We cobbled together what we liked and sent it to her to make sure it was as sound and flowing as we thought (she said we could do anything we wanted including our own personally written).  Neither of us are public speakers so we limited ourselves to the “I do” and made her do all the talking!

This way was still special to us as we sat with the list and both talked about and highlighted parts we liked and narrowed it down until we had the whole ceremony laid out.  While we didn’t “write them” neither of us are very publicly emotional so it worked great for us because we put the parts we liked and felt meant something into a whole.

We have decided to write our own because what we feel the traditional vows will not express how we feel about each other. It was so easy for me to write them…I emailed them to my school advisor and she cried and said I have a way with words. She said she will call me when she wants something written.

We have been through a lot given the fact that he is in the military, injured, etc. So our vows will express how far we have come and how strong our bond has grown.

We’ll definitely be writing our own- my fiance already started thinking about it before he even proposed

In the UK, civil partnerships (gay marriage) aren’t allowed to write their own vows.  We are given our vows from a choice of 3.  One is probably the lesser of the evils, the other sounds like a chapter from a Disney book and the third sounds like I’m standing up in court about to give evidence.  I wish I could write my own like so many others here, yours all sound very cool!

We did both! We repeated vows that were given by the celebrant. His thick Greek accent was HILARIOUS!

‘Do yooooooou, Keeeeeeeaaaaarne, take Kellyyyyyyyyy, to be you wiiiiiiiiiyfe’

    We lauged so hard

And then it made me cry

And we also wrote some that we got to recite after the initial standard ones.

they were also my something blue

We are just in the process of writing our own, but I use the term writing very loosely! We are borrowing from here and there to come up with our own combination, including some words we want to say about each other.

We got married in a Catholic ceremony and had to use one of the two that the Church allows. It wasn’t such a big deal bc we were were so focused on the ceremony and actually liked the vows offered.
