I started posting on this board in March and asked the bees if they thought it was weird my boyfriend (now fiancé!) said we were going to wait to get engaged after I finished my CPA exam. It was sort of a ‘deal’ we made but nothing set in stone obviously and I just stopped talking about rings and engagements after that! Little did I know the sly man already had the rock! I was sure he was going to wait until I was done with my tests so I have been just plugging along! Anyways- I have 2 out of 4 tests completed and just took a third (don’t have my score yet) two days before leaving on our 7 day/6 night vacation to Cabo, Mexico. We go on a nice vacation somewhere every year so I didn’t think anything of it. We arrived on a Sunday and I had mentioned that Thursday and Friday nights I had brought two fancier dresses I wanted to wear on those nights (being that they were our last two nights there.)
We were just having an amazing and relaxing vacation filled with tanning, swimming, and random activities on the resort (ping pong, beach volleyball, pool side trivia, nightly shows, etc.) Thursday comes around and my man tells me we have dinner at 730 and a free photo session with the on-site photographer at 7 that was a special thing that came with our room- which I believed because we had upgraded to a legit room and there was a card that stated we had a photo session for free with one picture. So I made sure to leave myself plenty of time to get ready and ensure I had my hair and makeup perfectly done! I slipped into my slinky coral dress and heels and we met the photographer. We walked around and took a few pictures in various places until we came up to this mezzanine area overlooking the entire grounds of the hotel that had a bottle of chilled champagne and two glasses waiting. The photographer told us not to worry and that he could photoshop it out of the pictures. Then all of the sudden my SO grabbed it and motioned to a waitress to come down the stairs and open the bottle. Once we started sipping champagne, my SO put his arm around me and started saying all of this sweet stuff but kind of rambling at the same time. He said he got me the champagne because I had brought a lovely dovey card for him saying how much I loved and appreciated him- but I still thought it was weird he had gotten it during the middle of the photoshoot! Then he put down his glass, pulled out a ring box and got down on one knee! I finally had figured it out by that point (haha took me a while). Once I stopped crying and kissing my FIANCE (eeeeeeek) the photographer said since we had paid for the session we could take more pictures down by the beach! So I wiped my tears, checked my makeup and we took some great engagement photos! My fiancé then got to tell me all of the things he had been doing to plan the engagement for the last few months like emailing with the hotel and photographer. It also explained why he kept saying he didn’t feel well and had to go to the bathroom so many times during the week or go get towels! I thought the Mexican food was getting to him but he was just making sure everything was set up and perfect! Best proposal I could have even imagined and I was in absolute utter shock (and literally still am- I cannot stop staring at my hand), especially since I was 100% sure he was waiting until after my CPA tests to be done! The one caveat is that I have to wait to plan anything until I do finish my tests. So hopefully I will find out in about two weeks I passed test #3 so I only have one more to finish! In the the mean time I get to design my own custom setting because he knows I am so picky and want the ring to be perfect! He proposed with an amazing rectangular radiant cut solitaire which I thought I would hate wearing until I could get the setting but it’s so beautiful and I love it! The end 🙂
