I’ve been lurking these boards for a while now, but I’ve decided I need some people to vent to since I feel like I’m on the waiting list (unofficially so far lol).
My SO and I have been together since January 2011. I recently bought my first home and we moved in together. So far, even though everyone says it’ll be hard at first, it’s been easy living with him. No one is perfect, I’m a little OCD, he’s a little sloppy, but we are ebbing and flowing as best as possible.
We’ve talked about a wedding, and I know that when we get married it’ll be a whirlwind life after that. I’m 32 and he’ll be 28 next Tuesday so we are both on the same page that after a wedding there will be a baby 1 and baby 2 right after each other. So, I think we are just enjoying our time alone right now (with my practice baby, my cat Buddy) and taking our annual vacation to Mexico alone since after kids it’ll be Disney World instead of Riviera Maya. We talked about what type of wedding we are going to have. My parents gave me a good sum of money for the down payment on my home, and I couldn’t ask them for any more money for a wedding. Where I live (Connecticut) a lot of the reception halls has a 100 plate minimum to book or you pay the difference. Neither of us have huge families and only a tight group of friends. We decided that we would have a destination wedding in Mexico at the resort we stay at every year. His mother wouldn’t be able to travel to Mexico for the wedding due to her medical conditions, therefore we would have the legal ceremony at home, and my co-worker/friend is a Justice of the Peace which works out perfectly! We would have a reception at our house for the people who couldn’t make it to the wedding, just a big barbecue or something.
So, with that being said, I’m going to put myself out there and say I’m waiting for the ring. He hasn’t really asked me what kind of ring I wanted or whatnot, so I don’t know how that’s going to work out. One of his roommates and I talked about it and I told her what I liked, so maybe when the time comes he’ll ask her. I’m not the type that would care either way, just not gold (white gold is okay lol).
I will probably be on here as much as possible and hear all the wonderful engagement stories! I hope to make a lot of friends on here!
