I’m in love with a ring that isn’t considered an ER and it’s not very expensive. I’d love SO to get it for me for when he proposes but I really want my ER to be a surprise and his choice. He knows I love this ring but if he doesn’t get it for me, I might just get it for myself.

lilsweetie :  You’re welcome! Do you know how wide your engagement ring is in mm?

Sorry if this is huge!  I am not necessarily a waiting bee, but if my lovely girlfriend ever wants to propose, I wouldn’t say no to this…especially with a ruby or yellow sapphire in the center.  tongue-out

Edited to add:  I just did a google image search and found the designer’s website-Sofia Kaman.  Beautiful stuff–but at $6500 to start, this beauty is way beyond my pricepoint! money-mouthtongue-out

I emailed him with this picture, where he can get it made and told him to get rid of the diamonds along the bridge.

I am still waiting for this solitaire beauty, but he says I will have it before the year is up *crosses fingers*

I’m doing a little of both.  He for sure knows the style I like and I have showed him pictures.  But I am leaving it up to him to shop.  He doesn’t like the idea of going ring shopping together and wants to feel like he picked it out.  So I’m trying not to be too controlling ๐Ÿ™‚

rcanlyn :  you could have something like that custom made for much cheaper – check out OroSpot on Etsy or David Klass, who is creating my ring right now based on a vintage ring I found online that would have been $10,000 to replicate from the website that had sold it. For $1450 he’s creating a platinum ring for me, and I bought a moissanit elsewhere for a fraction of the cost of a diamond. I’m sure a ruby or yellow sapphire could be found at a reasonable price, if the time comes that you and your girlfriendwant to make that happen!

I didn’t want to be surprised – my boyfriend has surprised me with jewelry before and it hasn’t been to my taste, but luckily he had no problem with exchanging the necklace he bought me for something more my style (it didn’t hurt that what he’d bought was larger than what I like to wear and I wanted something daintier- I’d never ask for a bigger rock!). Since this ring is something I’m planning to wear every day forever, I want it to be something I truly love. And I’m splitting the cost of it and did all the research and design consultation, keeping him in the loop but making the decisions. He figures it’s my ring and I’m the one wearing it, so I should have what I want. He’s still going to propose, though!

My man wants it to be an absolutely total surprise. I have shown him nothing because he hasn’t asked although I have hinted to him before that I like solitaires when we were talking about rings in general.  However, he has EXCELLENT taste (probably even better taste than my girlfriends) so I’m not worried.

I had a good system. I went ring shopping with my sisters and had a pinterest board, then let him go shopping with them. I got a gorgeous ring that I adore… but this was my true pinnacle of ring porn:

And this is what I received:

Pretty darn close ๐Ÿ™‚

My Fiance asked me to make a Pinterest board of rings I liked.  We also went shopping together a couple of times as a lot of the rings I liked online I didn’t like in person (at least on me).  I was supposed to narrow it down to 3 rings and he had the final choice but my styles were all over the place and I was having trouble (read: obsession) narrowing it down.  He said one day to trust him and I didn’t know when he actually ordered my ring.  He proposed a little over a month ago with a ring that was identical to one I pinned.  I had tried one similar at Costco but he got this one from a private jeweler.  I was floored with his choice and it was much more than what I was expecting.

(I really need to take new pictures)

dollie87 :  I love the knife-edge and the wheat pattern on the band! I’m thinking of getting either a wheat or an orange blossom pattern for my band.

My SO generally has great taste but I really wanted to be sure I was in LOVE with my ring so we looked at ideas together! When I finally found the one I knew I had to have, I showed it to him and made sure he knew what it was. I liked that we were able to find it together but that I could feel totally confident that I would be absolutely head over heels for my ring! This is my future baby ๐Ÿ˜

shorty123 :  An e-ring is whatever ring he proposes with. That ring would look so nice with a plain band in a contrasting color, and looks like it would be very comfortable to wear. I prefer “flat” rings too! If you end up with something else you could always get that as your wedding band.

This is my favorite ring ever!   And hopefully will be getting it soon.
