I was sneaky. I told my dad all the details about what my ideal ring would be like – cut, style, metal, stone, sent pics of ones I liked, because my dad&I are super close and he knows my preferences very well. THEN, I made sure my boyfriend (now fiancé) knew that I expected him to ask my dad’s permission BEFORE he proposed. That way my dad could offer to give him pointers on the ring…

It ended up not actually working (he couldn’t ask my dad, cause of distance/communication issues) but still worked out. Fiance had the brilliant idea to carve me a wonderful proposal ring out of wood, and then we picked out the full-time ring together.

nykkee :  I just meant in the shop it’s not considered an ER. Not sure how it is in other countries but in the UK, if the jeweller lists it as an ER it tends to be more expensive.

I prefer flat rings too and I love your idea of getting it as a wedding band if I don’t get it as an ER. That way I’m guaranteed to get it at some time in my life 😊

Thank you

shorty123 :  it’s the same way here in Canada with how they list things, rings listed as engagement rings are priced much higher than “diamond fashion” rings, it’s just a money grab, men are conditioned to think they have to spend a lot on an engagement ring so the stores mark them up more.

I love the trust loads of the Bees here have in their partners picking their ring 😀 I couldn’t bring myself to let anyone pick my ring! I brought my H2B into shops and in the final one I told him which one I wanted and that was the one he was to buy! Looks kinda bossy when it’s written down like that but I’m so particular about my jewellery 😣 My friends tell me it’s my “addiction”. I could nearly pay off the wedding on my own with what’s in the jewellery boxes 😂😂

bibilicious :  I did not show him directly before we got engaged but I did drop a few hints about Tiffany’s classic engagement ring. They have a campaign/advertisement about it being “The most beautiful ring in the world” or something like that. Not sure if it was coincidence or he understood the hint but I got it one year later.

Fiance knew I wanted something that was set low because I’m careless with my hands! One day, he was fretting about how hard it is to choose a ring, and I told him all I cared about was low and silver. After his face dropped, he told me he really wanted to get something rose gold. We ultimately decided to design something using family stones, and I went for the rose gold to honor his initial idea!

My fiancé and I picked out my ring together! We were separated in distance because of military training, but we had a three way email going with a consultant at Brilliant Earth. My ring takes my breath away.
