No family and friends. I start thinking about other people I know too much when I’m around them, what they’re thinking, how they feel, etc. I just worry about their comfort more than I should. So I’d rather they not be there so I could just enjoy “us.” Excellent food involved at some point in the day – doesn’t necesarily have to be during the proposal.

Winter.  But mostly because I know it’s coming during the holidays!  Intimate- but I wouldn’t mind our families there to celebrate with us! πŸ™‚ I know he’ll make it wonderful for us.

Okay, I actually have a Word document saved on my PC (I am ridiculous, yes) called “Dream Proposal” so I’m just gonna copy and paste from that:

  • Somehow incorporated into a *name of SO and flatmate’s joke band* song (with video) that asks me to marry him/is about our relationship/is awesome
  • Get down on one knee
  • Have someone hide and take photos
  • A total surprise and not expected at all
  • *SO’S NAME* I would never want a proposal from anyone else

I’m going to add that in addition to those things, I’d love candlelight and I’d love lots of really heart-felt words and high emotions from him (he doesn’t do soppy or lovey-dovey or expressing deep emotions and feelings, really). Also, it’d be good to set up a camera to record the whole thing, as I’d prefer it to be private rather than the friend thing I suggested before. And then after, we could bask in the glory of us knowing and only us knowing, and cuddle up tight, fiance and fiancee, until we felt the time was right to spread our happy news.

But obviously, none of the above matters. Only the promise, the commitment, the readiness matters.

I have read a few proposals involving a surprise trip somewhere and I think that would be awesome!

I have a super dream proposal that I love to fantasize about, but it’s totally ridiculous. It will never happen… I’m almost embarassed to share πŸ˜›

My SO is a wonderful guitar player and singer. I imagine us hanging out at our local bar with a bunch of friends and him randomly getting up on stage, singing some romantic country song and then proposing with an extremely well thought out speech, complete with high emotion. Then everyone would clap.

*end scene*

In all reality, my SO is: not great with words, not a planner and doesn’t enjoy being the center of attention… so that’s out.

I’d love it to be something goofy, because that’s very us. My sister’s fiance (they’re getting married on SATURDAY, wooo) proposed by ambushing her as she was coming out of the bathroom. She was totally surprised and although it was a little random, it fit them perfectly. I could see my SO hiding the ring box in the fridge behind the milk or something like that, haha.

My SO is a very private person and he usually doesn’t make “grand guestures.” He does all kinds of cute, little things, but other people don’t see that. So, I want a big, grand proposal in front of strangers and hopefully some good pictures out of it!

I’ve never thought about it. And now that I’m am thinking about it, I really don’t know. I’m shy so I want to say private with just the two of us, but he is very family oriented so I’d be OK with it being around family. He can do it in public around strangers too I guess, but that would be my least preferred way.

As I said in another post where someone was asking whether other bees cared if they are proposed to on a holiday….I can’t say I have the luxury of being picky. He can do it whatever day, in whatever way he wants! As long as he does it!

My dream proposal would be wintertime in Paris. Underneath the Eiffel Tower, just the two of us.

Realistically, this is not going to happen.

So instead, my realistic dream proposal would be in a pretty place, somewhere that we can return to on vacation as our spot, and have it hold special memories.

Um…that he proposes?

LOL, okay but seriously, I don’t really have a dream proposal. I just hope it’s somewhere relatively private with just the two of us. I really want to be able to enjoy the moment without worrying about having to immediately celebrate the moment with family and friends. I’m sure he’ll say lots of lovely things and I hope he gets down on one knee. Other than that, he can do what he wants.

@tea: That’s me too! I actually just want him to ask, I’m not sure I really care where/when. Now that we’ve picked out the ring together and I know what it looks like, I’m actually starting to think it’s really silly that we’re going through the whole “surprise” proposal thing. It’s not a surprise and you already know the answer!

Via love letter! (a la Jane Austen’s Persuasion) Ideally my proposal would be scripted exactly the way it is in that book. But SO tells me real men don’t write like that Undecided
