40k isnt just for a ring and a pretty wedding. The 40k could be for a house, or a nest egg. Plus for a man who just months ago did not want these things and let someone else walk before you without regret he probably is still digesting these new wants. I think you’ll be ok. Men sometimes take a little while to get the ball rolling but he seems to be in a good place. Have you looked at rings? Do you know the price range of what you want? He may also just be very financially conservative.

@kaylaann:  I read this and saw that you have a great relationship but I noticed you said he has commitment issues because an ex wanted to get married, he didn’t, and she left.

It is a very good sign that he couldn’t let you go (like he let her go) and he is now changing his whole viewpoint on marriage / commitment. I think you need to give him time to adjust to the idea, and in the meantime I’d say try to be really supportive of him in general, get your relationship in a really good place but also maybe make sure he gives you some kind of timeline and hold him accountable?

Guys can be hopeless procrastinators πŸ™‚

@kaylaann:  HAHA I can’t believe how similar our partners / relationships sound! The funny thing is we have been together 4 years too – but we are much younger. The kicker though, is that my partner was like “I want to marry you now now now now” and gets incredibly clucky over kids – and now he can’t propose!! What is wrong with them!

Well my SO has said he will keep me waiting until Feb and then I can nag him. So it sounds like we will only be waiting for the same amount of time. I will keep an eye out for your name on the boards πŸ™‚

Good relationships & good guys – we forget they are actually worth waiting for πŸ™‚ It sounds like you are doing a really good job and he is getting his butt into gear. I know it is hard not to get your hopes up though, but I find the busier I am the less I think about it! I have other people bring it up and go “oh, that, no not yet” but it’s obvious how happy I am waiting for it on it’s own πŸ™‚

I think there is nothing worse than getting a proposal through an ultimatum.

@kaylaann:  Could not agree more. I like you a lot – we sound pretty similar πŸ˜€

Good luck!
