I’m half Chinese, and there’s no “way” to do it, haha. She was very kind to offer her own ring, and that is a big deal no matter the culture…but I’m assuming you aren’t Chinese so to be accepted by his mother is great. Not all Chinese families are of the old school ‘must be Chinese’ camp, but some still are. I don’t think she stole his thunder at all…she just gave you a trail to follow. πŸ™‚

Every couple is different. Some girls think 16 months is a long time to be dating and some don’t. Either way, I’ve found the waiting bees to be very accepting in general.

@Bunnyeyes26:  welcome! And may your waiting be over as well (I’ve been waiting less than a year but if you stick around youll realize that with my personality, long waits arent in the cards =0p). I hope he gets on with the proposal!

@Bunnyeyes26:  Haha, I’ve noticed from my mom’s side of the family (who is 100% Canto) that the women in my family are NOT SUBTLE. My grandmother will point to her ring finger and then me when she sees me…whether or not SO is there! LOL Chinese families love the thought of a good wedding, so of course she wanted to expedite it!

Yeah, she could have given it to him…but maybe she thought it would be a bonding experience for you two. πŸ™‚ That’s really cute. I’m so happy for you!

I’m half black, half Canto so good luck with your future Fiance and your future cute bebes. πŸ™‚

I’m Chinese and come from a long line of people with zero subtlety. Always makes me laugh!

@Bunnyeyes26:  Uh, it’s huge. But this is me. I am mixed with Native American too, but close enough. πŸ™‚

What I find with family that doesn’t speak English (like my own grandmother), they understand you but cannot articulate a response. Maybe you can brush up on some Canto? Mandarin and Cantonese are almost completely different, with Cantonese being more difficult because of additional tones. Okay, did I scare you off? :O

Anyway, thanks and GOOD LUCK!
