watch out, around here people attack you for planning before engagement. Apparently its the worst crime in the world…. all i did was consider if a venue would work for my ideal reception and got my head bitten off for it.  Good luck tho.

It happens, people shouldn’t attack you. It’s not like you are putting a down payment or actually buying the stuff. After so long of dating, sometimes your inclined to look at stuff. I see stuff all the time I like on pinterest, so instead of pinning it so people don’t get their panties in a knot, I just like it. I figure when that day happens I’ll move the ones I still like over to a board. I also have looked at resorts I want to get married at — sometime it makes me feel better since we’ve been dating for so long!

@SerenityLove:  LOL.  Thats a major stretch of the truth.

@missjuli:  Worry not. No one will “attack” you here.  Honestly, I think its silly (which you seem to realize anyway), and probably a waste of your money to buy anything, because by the time you’re actually engaged, you may end up with a COMPLETLEY different concept/theme/etc…or certain things might totally clash with the colors or style of  your venue, or your Fiance might hate them.  The venue ends up being the springboard for all those smaller purchases. But if you have the money to blow, its yours to do with that you’d like.   I’d suggest more “pinning” or collecting of inspiration – and less actual buying.

@mandypop:  Agree with the pinning!  We had a 14 month engagement and honestly my opinions changed so much from the beginning to now!

Plus, don’t forget you’re leaving our you Boyfriend or Best Friend when you plan ahead.

We don’t bite I promise!  I would be careful buying too much now, we had a long engagement and I bought things at the beginning that I didn’t end up using.  Big waste of money and it was too late to return anything.  But have fun getting ideas right now!

I ‘planned’ way before we were engaged.  By planning i mean pasted pics and ideas of wedding things I loved: hairstyles, etc.  Nothing in detail though.  And I didn’t buy anything.

I am getting married November 25 this year and my vision has changed some.  The colors are the same though and I stayed true to my princess dress and tiara deal, but other things like decor and such have changed since I know so much more about weddings and have grown and tastes have changed.  I think you shouldn’t buy anything yet until you have a date and venue.  Like why buy runners if you end up booking a venue that includes that stuff.

I’m waiting for my proposal but i’ve already made my garter, cake topper and bought the boxes for the favours of ebay (super cute, can’t wait to use them but i kind of want to invite less people making a majority of the boxes go to waste) heck, i don’t care what people think. Grab those table runners while you can!! if you do decide to change your colours you can still hang them right? besides, who can pass such a great bargain?

Yeah I’ve seen the bad experiences in the Knot NYE board. I’m terrified to go there now. I think the Bees are so much more understanding, but firm on their advice.

I’m on the fence about buying things before the ring. I understand they’re a great deal and all. Believe me it’s hard for me to go through a craft store and not go down the wedding aisle and try and pick something up.

I’m very guilty of planning though. So I really can’t say much.
