Just getting some things off my chest, but advice/ suggestions always welcomed. Sorry it’s a bit long!
Darling Husband and I had plans for a while to TTC from spring/ summer this year, despite us being broody for a while! Reasons for waiting are purely practical: 1) I’ve got the last one of my professional exams to take beteeen Dec 19 – March 20; 2) ideally want to save more money; 3) I had a back injury last year and this gives it more time to heal.
Plans were altered in December after 3 weeks of spotting on my coil and I went and had it removed because I wanted rid and thought I can see how my cycles are for a few months before TTC. Well, that didn’t last long as we got so excited and ahead of ourselves and thought, what the hell let’s do this!
We didn’t manage to conceive in December on cycle 1 and the end of that cycle coincided with more stress for me because I’m also sitting an exam this month. I kept thinking gosh, this is going to be difficult to revise with a newborn! So we’ve delayed again for our original plan.
Darling Husband is on board (although disappointed!).
On the one hand I know waiting 5-6 months in the grand scheme of things isn’t that long, so I will wait. But I think I just want to STICK to the plan now and stop rethinking if it’s right or wrong I’ve also had the coil removed now so really, we are NTNP and I just don’t want to “change my mind” again on the heat of the moment.
Which is possible because Darling Husband would go for it!But it’s also hard because for every one of the original reasoons, I have a solution: 1) lots of people have exams with kids, we would make it work! 2) we already have £20k saved, we don’t “need” more 3) my back is better and I’m in good health generally
Fully aware this is a first world problem by the way.

thosethreewords : yeah well ultimately it is just up to you. Personally I would not have wanted to be pregnant when I wrote my professional licensing exam (add morning sickness and fatigue to that and it would have been a nightmare). You could NTNP and see what happens. Also, start taking a prenatal vitamin if you aren’t (you should be taking folic acid for 3 months prior to conception).

The summer isn’t that far away now. I’d prob stick to at least waiting until after your exams. I had horrible nausea and exhaustion in the first trimester and doing exams at that time would not have been fun.

anev : hi, I’ve been taking pregnacare for a few months and will continue to do so.
I don’t mind taking my second exam while pregnant because the benefits to taking maternity leave during the next 18 months (until my contract expires) are really good.

Twizbe : thanks, yes I do want to wait, as I think it’s for the best. I’m just playing devil’s advocate (to myself).
Luckily I don’t have to book my exam until the month before I sit it, although I have a 5 month window to do it in, so hopefully should be able to time it around the dreaded nausea.

I think you should stick to your original plan based on the reasons you’ve given. We are on a end of March timeline and I’ve had urges to want to try now but I am in my academy until mid March and Dh gets a raise in March so it wouldn’t be reasonable to push for two months earlier. The time is flying by and I’m actually more nervous than Dh now and I was the one wanting it more and sooner originally.

I totally get what you’re feeling. It’s such a exciting time! We’re actually pushing up our timeline. We were going to wait until November this year since we just got married, but we’re both 33 and we both really want a family. We talked and thought why wait, what’s an 8 month difference ? So we’re trying starting in March. The wait is still killing me, but I’m trying to enjoy these last few months as just us with little responsibility other than ourselves. It will never be like this again. Soak up every last drop as you as a couple and stick do what’s right for your family!

kayjee : TTC timeline twins! I hope we both get pregnant quickly. The wait is killer and the build up seems so long but then it’s here before you know it.

My husband and I are planning to start TTC in July or August. The reasons we are waiting are that we’re house hunting so we want to find a house before getting pregnant, and if we wait until then to start trying then by the time the baby is born I’d be in a position to leave my job and be a stay-at-home mom which I really want. I totally get how hard it is to wait, and I know the fear of being in the heat of the moment and accidently trying early. I’ve went off birth control so now we use condoms, and we’ve promised to make sure we are responsible each time. Having goals and really focusing on them really helps the wait! Tell yourself that achieving these goals are bringing you closer to having a baby. That really has kept me motivated and on track with the plan of waiting to TTC.

Thanks for your replies bees!
Feeling a lot more positive about it all. Me and Darling Husband had a chat about all the things we want to do this year and we’re going to make it count, so now I feel like I’ve switched my mindset from waiting to TTC to being excited for the trips and plans we’re making which is so lovely.
Also I’ve got 3 weddings before summer so now I can drink at each one of them!! From someone who doesn’t usually drink, I’m suddenly really excited by this!!!

thosethreewords : Haha we are debating waiting until July to transfer our IVF embryo and get pregannt so I will tell you… FIVE MONTHS FEEL LIKE FOREVER!! Haha
Can you be pregnant when you write your exams? Maybe you can split the difference by waiting a few more months and then being pregnant for your exams? It would be hard to take an exam and have a newborn at home (although my husband worked full time and was in university full time when we had a newborn and he still had to do equal shifts with the baby so I guess it’s possible)

MissKristi : hi!! Yes I can definitely be pregnant for the exam and that’s what a lot of people tend to do. I will probably start TTC in June/ July I think so I can be max 6 months pregnant for my exam!
Good luck with your embryo transfer!!

Right there with you! We were going to start in October, but bumped it up to April (immediately after our wedding, actually) and I have a pre-conception check-up Jan 31st. If it were up to me, we’d start now, because my cycles are horrendous and I have no idea how long it’ll take. My cute, precious, very naive love thinks it’ll happen immediately. I’m hoping my new doctor can whip my uterus into shape and help us out.
