I’m 31, married almost two years, and will be trying soon. I hate the stigma against 30 and suddenly being afraid that you won’t conceive. As long as you’re healthy, I don’t see it as a problem.

30 is smart and definitely not too late!

30 seems to be the normal age to start trying in my group of friends…..and check out the thread about all the ladies who are ‘early in TTC’……most are around 30.

Plus, I like to think of the ‘true age’ thing, like Dr. Oz talks about. If you are really healthy, you might even have the body of a 25 year old at 30!

Ditto to just about all of the comments above.   Having your first after 35 raises your risk of some complications a bit, but if you live a healthy lifestyle, even waiting until then should be fine.  TTC at 30 or beyond is not an issue at all.  I’ll be 32 in a few days and we’re not going to start TTC for a few months yet.

As other have mentioned though, it can take a while for your body to adjust after a prolonged time on BC.  I’m not sure if you’ve been on it but I would think about coming off all hormonal BC at least a year before you start TTC.

Congrats on grad school – and good on you for taking a responsible, practical approach to when you want to start TTC!  🙂

Personally, I say enjoy being married before you decide to have children.

We’re both in our 40s so that’s the only reason why we’re TTC immediately.   When I discovered I was going to have fertility problem @ 31, I stressed but it got me no closer to finding my DH.  I actually began to worry @ 39, met my DH the next yr, and now the rest is history.  I am lucky that I have several friends my age who have young children or just starting families so I have friends who I can share the experence.

I was 31 and in grad school when we started TTC.  I am now 33, pregnant, and STILL in grad school.  In fact, I will be giving birth mid-semester!

I think 30 is perfectly fine.

I’m 31, was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 14 and wont be TTC until i’m 32 or close to it. I wanted to start trying last year but due to my ill health last year and hubby’s injuries this year (leaving him unable to work for 6 months) I think it’s better we wait until things are more stable, despite the clock ticking.

I know it’s more risky the older we get, however there’s a balance between how financially / emotionally ready you are versus how old you are and each woman has the difficult decision to weigh the pros and cons and decide where she falls on that spectrum.
