- Wedding: October 2010
So I don’t know if anyone’s even interested in my little waiting story, but I’m sharing anyway. Ha.
Just kidding, you ladies are the best! Anyway, read on if you want but I mostly just need to put this out somewhere. Why not here?
Yesterday, we took my ring to the jeweler’s because they were having a “gem fair,” and an onsite jeweler to set them. As you may or may not remember, we wanted to find an aquamarine to be the center stone of my gorgeous, currently-center-stone-less ring. It was a roller coaster at the beginning, let me tell you! We got there, and the salesperson who had helped us with the ring and called us several times over the last three weeks to talk to us about the kind of stones we wanted, etc., wasn’t there yet; he’d come in about an hour later.
So first we talk to the on-site jeweler, the one who brought all the gems. And he’s like, “Oh, well, I don’t carry aquamarine.”
*Jaw drops*. Now bees, I am NOT a patient person. I’ve spent the last three weeks on edge, waiting for yesterday to come and it finally arrived and… looked like we weren’t going to get our stone! I was right pissed. I mean, we’d been talking to them for several weeks about what we wanted to see, and they’d even called the day before to confirm.
So we ask to speak to the manager, who tells us, “Oh, well, the jeweler doesn’t have them, but we did ask for a few to be brought in special just for you.” Phew.
Then he proceeds to show us a couple different stones that were, I’ll admit, beautiful. The really blue kind of aquamarine, which isn’t really what we’re after. And bf and I both know it’s more expensive.
They were $1250 and $1800 respectively.
I was pissed again. And I said as much, this time. I said we’d told Jim (the guy that helped us with the ring, and had called us several times over the course of the last few weeks) that we weren’t willing to spend over $— on the stone. (Yes, I did it again, but I lowballed this time, and in light of the nearly-two-grand stones they had just showed us, our actual price range seemed really minimal). I said we’d both taken time off of work to come in today, and then I said we didn’t really want to wait. Haha. I meant, *I* didn’t really want to wait, but, well, yeah.
Well, he got the point, because he went to grab a few pieces of aquamarine jewelry out of the case. The “cheap” stuff– very faintly blue. He brought out a necklace and another ring, and pulled the stones to just lay them in mine and see what we thought.
And we found The One. We went to lunch while the jeweler set it and came back to wait out the rest, looking at wedding bands for bf in the meantime (Jim was in by then). And when it was done, the manager came walking over holding it and I almost saw it but managed to turn away (bf mandated I could not see the final product). Then they all tortured me by exclaiming how beautiful it was, and how much I’d like it.
I’m not sure the details, ladies, because bf won’t let me know til it’s mine. But I think it’s coming soon! Also, we had been throwing around 10-10-10 as our wedding date as a half-serious “joke” for a while, but yesterday he was saying if we want to actually go for it, we should really jump on getting a venue– so guess what we’re doing tomorrow morning!
Ahhh! I think it’s coming soon!
Though, knowing my luck, we’ll pick a venue and he’ll sit on the ring for like three months just to torture me.
