Dear OP, you sound understandably  sad , I am sorry about that. But I also  I think you sound  quite resolute and I think that you will win through and you will emerge on top of this .

He wil probably  be left foolishly wondering how it happened that he lost you.

If he hasn’t proposed after 6 years it’s pretty clear.

Either he knows for certain that you are it for him and he wants to be with you always, or he doesn’t want to commit to you on that level. And really, do you WANT to be with someone who you have to bring up and suggest marriage to?

If it were me I’d cut my losses and move on while still young and gorgeous.

Apologies if this offends anyone….I just find as I’m getting older I am getting a bit wiser and wish I could go back in time and tell my younger self all this simple stuff.

winterwarrior :  That’s not always true – D.H. proposed to me after 7.5 years – but unlike OP, we had always said that was our timeline and I never had to push him to marry me.  Just commenting that the blanket “it’s been x years, if he hasn’t proposed he doesn’t want to marry you” statements aren’t accurate.  I do agree with you on your other comment – I would cut my losses and move on if I was in this situation.

By this time I wouldn’t be surprised if he “forgot” that you said you needed a proposal this year.
