Wait, $40,000 for a ring? Please tell me that’s a typo. You really want a ring that expensive?

Gwen.

@OmigoshesGrrrl: I think she means the whole marketing scam they pulled way back, they practically brainwashed all of North America into thinking every proposal needed at least a 1ct diamond ring. They also jacked up prices for diamonds, inflating their “value”.

Hmmm – I’ve got a friend with a brother who’s been making about 6 figures since he got out of college, and he dated his now wife 7 years before getting married, so he had a nice, healthy bank account – he’s awesomely successful, buys cars and whatnot whenever (I live paycheck to paycheck).  He proposed with a $20,000. ring, but she didn’t know it’s value (well, she knew its VALUE, but not its pricetag).  He worried she’d not want to wear the cost of a car on her finger, and wanted her to get used to wearing it before letting her know such things.  Thet decided to just use that ring, and not try to add a band, and it’s schmancy enough to be fine on its own.

If the OP has the financial circumstance for a $40K ring, lucky her – get it insured right away, but I think that was the price they WERE looking at for a 2 CT diamond, probably with side stones and pricey metal choice (or a big name brand like Tiffany’s).  It sounds like they’ve found a moissanite ring which probably costs less, maybe only $30K (j/k).  😛

Hope you’re right and the engagement happens soon.

@GwenvonD: HE was looking at a ring that pricey. However, if he has the means and it is within his lifestyle then that’s ok. To each his own. The OP did say that she likes Mossy better and that therefore the price of the actual ring will be no where near that.
