- Wedding: May 2015 - The Runnymede Hotel
So I feel like a bit of a cheat coming on the ‘waiting’ boards, as I’m not really waiting…
My partner and I have been together almost 5 years, lived together for two years and have always known this was ‘it’. We currently both have fairly good jobs and are comfortable financially. I think the engagement bug bit me a year or two ago. I was like a person possessed! He has always kept wedding/marriage talk at arms legnth citing our age, finances etc. as reasons not to.
This past September, something changed. I don’t know what, or why, but on the eve of my 24th birthday, he told me to give him at least a year or so. I was flabberghasted! I’ve since asked him what has suddenly changed his mind, and he said he always wanted to marry me, he just wasn’t ready.
So now he is saving up for a ring. I hated the idea that he was going to be saving up for this fairly extravagant, purely decorative gift for just me, so I have promised to buy him his dream Bass Guitar as his engagement gift. Now we are BOTH saving, and because we’ve agreed to pay the same amount of money, and that as soon as we have the money we’ll do it, it feels like a bit of a race!
This probably isn’t everyone’s idea of a perfect proposal, but I am so excited, it is totally us and so much fun! I love that we get to propose to each other 🙂
Anyone else being a bit unconventional?
