Hi – for our evening buffet, we are going to order in the food (as the venue buffet food is both very expensive and very limited). Yes, we are allowed to do this.
We are looking for tasty food that can be served as it is. IE it is delivered looking presentable on disposable platters which can just have the lid whipped off and be laid out. We won’t be able to transfer anything into pretty bowls or do any other arranging.
Do any UK bees know if Waitrose and M&S party food comes like this? M&S sometimes says ‘table ready’, but I am struggling to know with Waitrose as the photos are all of posh slate and things it obviously isn’t delivered with.
Also, anyone got an opinion on which one serves nicer food? Or of any better alternatives?

Where are you based? We had a caterer come in with plates of the usual buffet things for a funeral, very nice food and it could go from £3 a head to about £8 a head depending on what you wanted, with a flat delivery charge. Maybe a local catering company might be in budget?
The m&s platters can be ordered online but only for collection. They do have a lovely range of stuff though and m&s is usually good quality.

I’ve eaten a lot of the M&S “party” food, although through work while in meetings not actually at parties. I’m meaning the sandwich platters, fruit platters, those kind of things. They come in black plastic trays and you can just take the lids off and they look very presentable, no need to fuss around with them. I’ve always thought they tasted nice. I haven’t tried the Waitrose party food range but how wrong can you go with Waitrose, I’d expect them to be good.

We used Waitrose to cater for our son’s christening. Super easy whip the lids off type thing. Could recommend.
If you’re based anywhere near Derby though I’d def recommend Birds to cater your evening. They did my Grannie’s funeral and were amazing

the M&S stuff is pretty good and like others have said just comes on black plastic trays. Have you thought about Costco? they also do similar buffet food to order and might be cheaper if you are feeding a lot of people, it comes on similar trays to M&S so not much difference

Thank you for your responses. I’m in the east of England. I’ll look in to Costco! We can’t use the venue’s kitchen but maybe it’s worth investigating a caterer who could prepare offsite and then deliver. Good ideas!
