We are having a buffet wedding, about 100 ppl, help-yourself-style bar and waitstaff would be there from about 1 – 10 pm. I am paying them myself – any ideas what the pay should be? I don’t want to shortchange them…

Hmm. When you say you’re paying them yourself, do you mean they agreed to work without a contract? Usually when you hire someone they have a wage that they charge, plus gratuity which runs about 20%. All of this can be worked into a contract.
I’d be afraid to hire anyone without a contract, really – what do you do if they don’t show or want more money than you agreed on?
