We are planning our South Beach wedding remotely, from the Boston area. I’d really love to hear any DJ, musician, and other entertainment suggestions you might have. Thanks!

I’m also in Boston and planning a South Florida wedding. Not much is planned yet, since because of the number of guests (~150) we have to keep costs very low and I have not been able to find a place!

For dates we are thinking January/February 2010.

Hello!  I’m a South Florida bride!  I live in South Broward but I’m hoping to move to Davie/West Sunrise at some point.  I got engaged in December of 2007 and my wedding is in January of 2010.  I’ve already got my reception site (The Rusty Pelican in Miami, the views are so gorgeous) and I’ve found a wonderful company for my photo/video/dj (Party Time in Davie), both places have been so nice to me, I’m really happy with that so far. Flowers, transportation, and invitation/stationery are next on my list.

I’m a professional graphic designer & illustrator so I’m really into doing as much of my wedding stuff myself as I can.  I can’t wait to design my invitations!  I wanted to do letterpress but even with doing the design myself it seems a bit too pricey, so I will probably go with silk screen printing instead.

I am working on the wedding gown at the moment and I am really excited about it, I found a fantastic wedding gown designer on Etsy.  Previously the dress was REALLY stressing me out but now I feel so much better after talking to her and finding one of her gowns that I love.  I tried to find a seamstress/designer here in Florida to work with but I couldn’t find ANYONE who did custom gowns!  It’s crazy.  My designer is in Indiana but I’m not worried, she has a ton of wedding gowns posted to choose from and a lot of happy customers in her feedback area.  I love etsy!

Anyway I have a lot of questions and I’d also like to post to recommend my vendors, the ones I have are all fantastic (so far!).  Looking forward to posting more often!

Hi Ladies,

I am a Miami bride planning my wedding from NY. It’s in November so the weather should cooperate. My fiance’s family is in NY so we planned our wedding around the weather (snow/hurricanes).

Planning remotely has been a bit of a challenge, but definitely doable.

Nice to meet all of you!

I’m a ft. Lauderdale bride and so far this is what I canon tribute:

I ran into the same problem (super high minimums) with the hotels in the Ft. Lauderdale area. The Addison was my dream venue but their minimums were way too high for Feb (even for Oct too ). Either way you should check out Stonebridge Country Club in Boca. The pics online and on their site do NOT do them justice. I’m working with Kim who is a DOLL and they don’t have any crazy minimums for months/days and we actually had lunch there when we toured the venue and the food was phenomenal!  Their prices are reasonable and they were able to fully customize a menu for me as well. One last thing, I’ve been going to a lot of bridal shows and meeting with different florists, etc. All of them had nothing but great things to say about Kim at Stonebridge and the service they provide. One vendor actually called the Addison a wedding factory and warned they nickel and dime you for everything!

I am having my wedding on May 24th, and it will be at the Addison in Boca.  I admit their prices were very high for certain months, as stated by the previous post. But ours being in May had drastically reduced the price. My mother works in a hotel and to be honest, it seems a universal thing down here that the cooler months are nearly 1.5 x the price.  The things I loved about the Addison though, and made the idea of some extra $$ worth, is it is almost like getting a venue, caterer, and wedding planner in one. They provided some great tips for bakers and decorators that I ended up using. I found the DJ, photographer, and videographer on my own though, as the ones on the Addison preferred list were a little $$.

They may appear to nickel and dime you, but if you aren’t afriaid to bust out connections or try and haggle… they will work with you. Because my mom is in the hospitality industry, they waived any “outside vendor” fees for us.  Their minimum for F&B seemed high at first, but after realizing how many guests we would have and looking at open bar, cake, food, hors doervres for everyone..we realized without even trying we would excede that minimum. And that is after factoring in what other venues (hotels and such) may charge for the same things. Helene at the Addison has just been so helpful along the way, I don’t regret anything at all so far.

For Dj and Photo – I am using 84 West / AKA Party Time Dj’s from Davie.  Lisa has been great to work with over there and we picked the DJ named Adam, and the photographer Tony. We haven’t had our wedding yet, but I took my Fiance to one of their open house events to meet them, and he just loved them both.  So friendly, amicable, knowledgeable and I love that they let you meet 1-on-1 with the ACTUAL people you will work with before the wedding and before you actually choose them. Great place. My friend used them and her wedding reception was so much fun so I already have high hopes.

We used a website called WedWu to book our videographer. I am not as particular about that, I just want to have some video. Photos were more important.This site allows you to “bid” on your video package.  You can say what you want and how much you will pay and they will contact you and work out a deal. I haven’t met with this videographer yet, so I can’t say much. But I liked the ability to customize a package in your budget.

I hope that helps!

Hello Ladies,

~~~ Waves ~~~ Hi
Saw this post, and just had to drop by and wish you all well.
Mr TTR and I Eloped to a Destination Wedding (just the 2 of us) marrying on the Beach in Key West over the Christmas Holidays.
We L♥VE The Keys… having been a couple of times now…
Lol, now we have more excuses to go back and visit… all those “sweet Wedding” memories
We drove down…
Canada to SC… and then wandered thru the Mississippi Delta… Memphis to New Orleans… before hitting Florida and some of our favourite sites… Pensacola – Tampa – Fort Myers Beach – THE Alligator Alley / Hwy 41 – and then over to Key Largo.  The day we hit the keys we had lunch at Alabama Jacks – Drinks at the Holiday Isle Tiki Bar – and then arrived in Key West mid afternoon (had to get there in time for sunset !!)
Spent 3 Nights… and had a wonderful time (as we always do)
Then back to Miami and an overnight at an Airport Hotel before jetting onto San Juan (2 Nights there) before we boarded our 1 Week Southern Caribbean Cruise
Back to San Juan… flew back to Miami (gosh that airport is huge)… and then drove up to Fort Lauderdale for the night.
After that it was the long 3 day drive back to Canada… a fantastic 5 week adventure… with over a week in Florida.  Can’t wait to get back to the “Sunshine State” later this year !!
Happy Wedding Planning Everyone !!
