So married bee’s did anyone wear a hoop for the wedding? Or soon to be married bee’s did you buy a hoop? How do you sit in them and walk around in them, did you practice before the wedding?
I’m scared I’m going to look like a bell when I walk and the skirt will fly out and up everytime I sit down… lol help?

I’m not married yet; but I’m wearing a hoop skirt too. I haven’t practiced yet but I think I had better start. I have nightmares of me sitting down and having my skirt flying up over my head. YIKES!

There’s a really wonderful moment in The King and I when the King puts his court ladies in western dress, with hoop skirts, for the visit of western dignitaries, and then the ladies do the Siamese court ritual of prostrating themselves on the ground, popping their skirts up in the back for all to see.
Okay, not so wonderful for anyone that would actually happen to 🙂
I’m not doing a formal gown for our wedding, but I’ve worn them before (it’s a south Georgia thing – *sigh*). You do have to manage it a bit, Practice going through doorways, since single doors will be an issue if you don’t want the fabric of the skirt to brush the sides of the doorways – you may have to turn to the side a bit, depending on the size of the hoop. When you sit, just gently reach back with one hand and lift the skirt slightly to get one of the hoops under your butt when you sit in a chair – to keep it from jutting out like a bell when you sit.
Don’t worry about walking in it, since it’ll balance itself when you walk – they’re designed to swing slightly with your body – and it’s actually nice and kind of swishy with the hoop and the fabric moving around you.
Hope you have fun wearing it – that style can make you feel very grand and pretty!

@HappilyEverAfter54: When I first tried on a hoop when I decided on my dress I didn’t like the fact it bashed against my ankles so had to take it off after 10 seconds. But then the more I looked at photos of me in the sample and comparing pics on-line of other brides in my dress I decided a hoop did look better so went back to the shop and re-ordered a hoop and to be hoenst didn’t notice it at all on the day, I think having the weight of the dress on the hoop actually helps.

i wore a hoop. It was sooo easy to walk around in it….i was glad I went with it. It looked like I was floating.
It may depend on your dress. I had so much material that my dress didnt fly up.

@ProfessorGirl: thank you!
@AirForceWife78: It only has 2 hoops and they are around my knees and around the bottom… should I just pull it up and tuck it under when I sit?
