I flipped my handy dandy “the office” wall calendar to February this morning. This month’s picture is of Toby with the caption, “What are you guys talking about? I have a daughter. How can I be a virgin?”. Do you think the word “virgin” can be deemed offensive in a corporate environment? Some people around here are way too sensitive when it comes to this stuff and I’d rather not have to get into it with them. I’ve had calendars with some questionable wording before and I’ve covered it with lame post it notes as to not get anyones panties in a twist.
Thoughts? Think it’s fine to hang up as is or should I cover up the one stupid word because someone may find it inappropriate?

I can’t see it being offensive (I think it’s hilarious, gotta love Tobey!), but people will get their panties in a wad over just about anything these days. I’d say give it a test run and see how that goes. At most, I imagine you’d just get a memo to take it down/cover it up (and if that happens you can always do what I do and rip off the Tobey page to display one of the previous months for February while keeping the calendar part up).

@UpstateCait: i think if you’re questioning it, then it probably is innapropriate.
it all depends on your work setting. i work in a lab, very laid back- womens health lab, so we’re constantly talking about vaginas. so that wouldn’t be a big deal hahah.

I don’t see it as a big deal. It certainly wouldn’t bother or offend me. 🙂

the word virgin on its own is not offensive and the context that you described it in sounds fine to me, but it depends on how serious your co-workers are

It wouldn’t be considered inappropriate at my office, but then again the guys have the basement walls covered in porn so….. let’s just say my coworkers aren’t easily offended.

I think its okay. It certainly doesnt bother me. I think another thing to consider is how visible the calendar is and how big the text is. I doubt youll have a problem though

I’m not sure what you do, but that could change my opinion. I would never have a wall poster up, no one does here. To me it looks unprofessional, but again it depends where you work. I say since you already have the thing up it should be fine.

Thanks ladies. I’m going to put it up and see if anyone has anything to say about it. I asked Darling Husband what he thought since we both work for the same company and he thinks it’s fine. Then again, he also has a Megan Fox calendar up in his cube.

I’d think it’s probably okay, but obviously hard to say without knowing the culture of where you work. Worth a shot! 🙂
