Have you guys ever talked about marriage before?  Has he ever brought up rings to you?

Maybe you could send him pictures of the more modest style – really try and stress it to him you are going for modest.  That’s great you two have discussed the future.  Hope it all goes well! πŸ™‚

I straight-up told my SO that he could get me something out of a gumball machine and I wouldn’t care.  I think my timing was a little random, but he and I are pretty open with each other lol.

Also, I told him that if he ever needed to borrow my class ring for size reference, I keep it in a box that I never look in πŸ˜‰

LOL, I also told my Darling Husband before we got engaged that I didn’t need or want anything expensive. The more and more I thought about rings though, the more I wanted a moonstone ring since it’s a family stone for me. But I also knew from my own research that although affordable, finding one I liked was really difficult. So it actually worked out great when Darling Husband gave me his mom’s ring as an engagement ring (ie. free) and then let me pick out the wedding ring I wanted so we can save his mom/my ring to pass onto our kids. It was a win win, and I now have the ring of my dreams for less than $300.

I would say that if the opportunity comes up where you are talking about getting married, just emphasize what you want. And just be honest and up front about what you want. He might be relieved, or he might already have everything planned out like my Darling Husband did (without  my having any clue because I knew we didn’t have the money).

The way I told my Fiance about the ring I wanted is when we were in Wal-Mart of all places, randomly in the jewerly department (it was near the other things we needed) and I saw the most gorgeous $60 ring (my current e-ring!) and gushed over it and said that I would want an e-ring like it someday and would love it more than a diamond. Well, it worked, because 7 months later that pretty little ring was on my finger! πŸ˜‰

Good luck!!
