Considering the loss of my Future Father-In-Law and grandmother on the very same day I realized last night I needed a good laugh and I went back in my camera and found a couple silly photos I have of myself from last summer, yes, wearing my wedding gown from my first wedding in 1996! Yep, creep factor aside, my ex had had my gown in the preservation box for nearly eleven years after our divorce and all of a sudden when we were dropping off kiddos, out of the blue he hands it to me! I was totally taken aback! What the HECK did I want with this cursed gown?! And after all this time, too?
So it sat in my SO’s and my dining room for weeks. At first I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of it. I was only 22 when I got married the first time and my mom and dad had paid a lot of money for this gown. I thought of all the possibilities of things I could do with it but couldn’t decide. Finally, my SO was sick of looking at the box (don’t blame him) and pressed me for an answer and I said, “Throw it on the curb. Someone will take it or it’ll end up in the dump, but I want nothing to do with it.” He would hear nothing of it so we ended up giving it to Goodwill, BUT, not before I tried it on and snapped selfies to send to my mom to show her that after 20 years and 4 babies I still fit into my gown! So, yes. I understand it’s weird. And, yes, I walked around in it a bit because, even though it’s entirely out of date, it was still gorgeous! (No, my now fiancé was nowhere near the house when I did this! I’m not THAT odd!)
So, because I need a little fun tonight and to poke fun at myself as well, here’s me in my gown from 1996 taken last summer and photos of me in it IN 1996 (you’ll notice my ex has been cut out of all those pictures! I can’t stand looking at him. He’s not a good person.)
And you can all laugh. It was a breathtaking gown for its time, but can you see that bow on the back? Hee!
