Quick-and-dirty background: I’m an intern working in an office setting where the “dress code” is business casual. My interpretation is generally a little more formal than what most of my coworkers (and supervisors) wear, but not super-formal or anything like that.
I have a lot of basic pieces that I can mix and match (black and dark brown trousers, a few black and grey skirts, and various colorful tops), but I’m looking to find a few affordable, work-appropriate dresses as well…and I’m still searching for a great skirt to go with my brown Oxford heels (see pic below).
The most I can realistically afford per piece is $20-30, which will probably seem low to many of you–and honestly, it is! But luckily, I’m short and small-framed enough that I can fit into most things in the juniors section of many stores (even dresses, provided that they’re an a-line cut and not too short, as my butt tends to make the skirt/dress a couple of inches shorter in the back). This has saved me a TON of money in the past.
I definitely lean toward retro/vintage-inspired pieces and love things like pencil skirts that compliment my curves in a classy, work-friendly way. Lace, ruffles, etc. are awesome, and I LOVE color–but I also want pieces that are versatile and can be worn several different ways, since I’m on a tight budget.
You get bonus points if you can find me something to go with these beauties (my favorite shoes that I can’t wait to break out this fall):
Does anyone have anything in mind off the top of their head? I will love you FOREVER if you can help me out–I’m looking to update my wardrobe a bit for fall, but I want to actually plan it out before I go shopping. Who’s great at shopping on a budget? Any secrets you want to share?
