nicagrace28:  An art gallery? Buy out a restaurant for the evening.

nicagrace28:  I would go and view various different spaces to see if they could accomodate you, your guests, the band, a dance floor and food.

Museums, libraries, historical buildings/mansions, old speakeasy type of bars/venues/restaurants… I think any of these would be good but will depend on the functionality of the space.

nicagrace28:  It depends on the restaurant. Some have space for a band already. If you don’t need the full number of tables, some of them can be removed to make space for a band.

Jazz club sounds like a great idea, or a speakeasy style bar. Where in CA?

nicagrace28:  My daughter rented a historic theatre, built in the 1930s. Lots of gold and black and marble. The ceremony took place on the orchestra platform of the theatre. The cocktail hour/bar in a lobby with a mosaic tiled ceiling and dinner and dancing in the Grand lobby (photo). I can’t recommend one in CA, though. Another Bee had her wedding in a theatre and the photos were just as gorgeous. You don’t have to do much for decor, when the architectural detail and furnishings are of the time period you’re looking for.

nicagrace28:  Central PA. Here’s the ceremony, as seen from the balcony. We took the theatre tour and I believe the stage area was modeled off of a Turkish palace. 7 pieces of the band were located on the open, 2nd floor mezzanine area (20 x 30 feet) above the Grand lobby/reception, and the 4 vocalists were on the dance floor.

As I mentioned in a previous comment on an other thread, my fiancee and I really recommend to talk to Oasis Artists http://www.oasisartists.com when it comes to jazz, French and American swing, prohibition ambiance…they know their way! 4 of our friends hired them for their special events and they were really happy with the performance and the quality of the music. We also hired one of the bands they offer for our upcoming wedding in May and we feel very confident about it and are very excited! It’s actually quite relieving so now’s that we’re set with the music, it’s the time to focus on the menu! http://www.oasisartists.com

If you would consider a destination wedding in NYC Gallow Green would be perfect!
