If you wear contacts, think twice about wearing urban decay 24/7 liner (in the perversion color) or at least don’t put it on your waterline.
I wear contacts and put the liner on with the rest of my makeup, and then ran some errands a decent drive away from home. At one point while running errands, my vision in both eyes started getting so so blurry. First in small circles, but the blurred areas kept growing. Eventually, I had to take my contacts out (my vision isn’t that bad, so my vision without them was much better) because some kind of waxy deposits were messing up my contacts. I couldn’t get the clear waxy stuff off the contacts and had to throw them away and drive home without glasses or contacts. I’ve never had this happen before with any product and I’ve been wearing contacts and eyeliner for decades.
then I did a search & when you google urban decay 24/7 liners (specifically the perversion black color) & contacts, you’ll see that a bunch of contact wearers have had this issue with the liner messing up contacts to the point vision is really blurred and you have to throw the contacts away. It doesn’t seem to happen every single time contact lense-wearers use 24/7 (you might need to tightline or put it in your waterline) and even when it does happen, it doesn’t happen right away (it took an hour or 2 after applying perversion for it to mess up my contacts), but I’d never have taken the risk if I’ve known- just too dangerous and not worth it. I can’t imagine if that happened to someone with worse vision or whose contacts were really expensive.
I can’t believe that UD has such a bad, dangerous formula.

Shkragoldfish: Really!? I’ve worn contacts for 19 years now and the ONLY eyeliner that I swear by to stay where I put it is UD 24/7 liners. I line both my waterline AND the inside of my eyelid and have never had a problem.

Shkragoldfish: I have never had an issue with their eye make up. You may just have sensitive eyes.

RedheadMeggs: Sassygrn: I was so so surprised. my eyes aren’t sensitive at all. I’ve never had an issue with any eyeliner or any makeup product. I tried tightlining and lining my waterline again at home, to make sure & the same exact thing happened. I have very watery eyes & usually liner getting in my eyes doesn’t do anything to me. maybe certain contacts make it more likely (I was wearing dailies) with this liner, not sure.
but when you google search urban decay perversion 24/7 & contacts, other ppl have had the issue (that google search hasn’t turned up the problem for other eyeliners I looked for)

I’ve never had any issues with UD eyeliner. In fact, I quite like their brand.

again, ppl should feel free to do whatever works for them- I just wish I’d heard this before I drove 30 mins wearing it with no backup. If I’d known, I just would’ve tried it out more when I wasn’t driving (or at least had backup lenses/glasses).
just to show that I’m not making this up:
“I LOVE all 3 colors, but I can’t wear perversion when I wear my contacts. It leaves a film on my contacts which blurs my vision. Same thing happens with Stila Stingray. This is the only UD 24/7 liner that causes the smudges on my contacts. Anyone know an awesome black liner that I could use on my waterline that would not have this effect?” from http://www.xsparkage.com/new-urban-decay-247-eyeliners-woodstock-perversion-demolition/
“When I first bought this eyeliner I loved it (the color perversion). It’s the blackest eyeliner I’ve ever used, and it stays on the waterline terrifically. However, where this dries down to a completely matte finish it’s not suitable for the waterline of the eye as little tiny flakes of the product come off relatively easily into the eye. This makes it terrifying for contacts. Within just a couple of hours the product had gotten just enough into my contacts that I couldn’t even see out of one eye and it was so uncomfortable. The only use I have for this is to line right above my upper lash line.” from http://www.sephora.com/24-7-glide-on-eye-pencil-P133707
“I LOVE Urban Decay eye liners. They go on smooth, look great and I love the array of colors. BUT…when I tried out Perversion, I noticed that it “melts” onto my eye, causing this odd blindness on my contacts that is super tough to clean off. I only use this liner on my top lid (no water lines), but consistently have this issue with Perversion. Not sure if there is something different in the formula (just an observation, the cap & tips for Perversion are black, while the other colors all have silver. Are they different formulas?) but this liner irritates my eyes and contacts very badly.” from http://www.sephora.com/24-7-glide-on-eye-pencil-P133707
saying that UD’s 24/7 liners “have torn my contacts” from http://www.temptalia.com/urban-decay-black-velvet-247-velvet-glide-eye-pencil-review-photos-swatches

cls9q: yes, I’m definitely not saying that it happens every single time a contact lens wearer wears it or that it’ll happen for every wearer.
just thought ppl should know that, for someone who’s never had a single problem with any liner or any makeup product (and who’s been wearing liner for nearly 20 yrs), the two times I tightlined and lined my waterline with perversion, perversion made it so I couldn’t see and I had to take my contacts out and trash them.

I’ve had this same issue with Clinique eyeliner. Nice to know it’s not just me…

I have this same issue with Stila Smudge Stick waterproof eyeliner, but only the emerald color. It even happens sometimes when I’m not wearing contacts…
ETA: Try this stuff to clean off the eyeliner smudge. I haven’t found anything that this doesn’t clean off, but be sure to rinse it off the lenses before putting them back in your eye, it BURNS!

Oof, my eyes are so sensitive (anything waterproof makes them BURN) that even thinking about lining the waterline makes me cringe!

Shkragoldfish: I had the exact same problem. I didn’t know what was causing the problem at first but then realized it was the eyeliner in my waterline. My vision blurred and I had to take my contacts off to clean them. The same problem kept occurring everytime I used the liner. Even if I made sure to remove any excess product that was in the corner of my eye near my tearduct. Very disappointing product.

jessica.cevalles: thanks for posting. I wish they’d change the formula so it didn’t do this. It’s really odd and the only makeup product I’ve ever had any problem with. Im ising marc jacobs liner on my lower lashline (and sometimes waterline and corners of my eye) instead now and haven’t had any issue. It’s also very black, very pigmented so it’s a good substitute (I still put smashbox photo finish/monistat underneath it as primer and stamp around it w Ben nye banana powder and I have zero smudge for hours and hours).
This UD 24/7 issue is mentioned other places too:

Shkragoldfish: Can you please tell us what brand of contacts you use?
If you use Acuvue Oyasis then it’s the contacts NOT the eyeliner!! hahaha, seriously! Acuvue Oaysis are the WORST contacts ever and I have this eyeliner issue not matter what brand eyeliner I use. I’ve been wearing contacts for 20years now and I never had eyeliner problems before Oaysis. Not only the eyeiner issue but Oaysis have given me terrible dry eye and they tear super easily. They’re crap.

yumcheez: in over 20 years of wearing contacts, I’ve never had this problem with any other eyeliner before or since. It’s definitely the eyeliner and not the contacts. It happened every time I wore UD perversion in 24/7 pencil eyeliner on my bottom lashline/waterline, but never happened any other time. It happened with daily contacts and with oasis. I never ever had any other issue w my contacts before or since. And definitely it’s the eyeliner. Read the reviews. A clear wax from the eyeliner, if it gets into your eye, coats the contact to blur/cloud everything.
I get that it might not have happened to you, but it’s not that every person writing that this happens only w certain eyeliners is crazy And imagining it when it’s really the contacts. I have never had my vision go so blurry in under 20 minutes to the point I had to take my contacts out to be able to see except the times I wore UD 24/7 perversion on my lower lashline.

I wonder if it has silicone in the formula and that’s what’s reacting to the contacts?
