Nope! But I would suggest you tell your famiyl before the big holiday. That way, if there is some smoke that needs to blow over, it doesn’t have to affect/ ruin the day for anyone else.

@Galang_Gyal:  I think there was relief on all sides when we declared our elopement.  People were relieved that they didn’t have to buy plane tickets, take off work, etc.  We did them a favor!

@Galang_Gyal:  I think it sounds good to tell them prior to the family dinner.  Defending?  Well, I’d be a broken record and say something like, “this decision makes us very happy and feels the best for us.”  If they try to argue my comeback would be, “But it makes us happy and feels right!” How can one deny what feels right/happy for another couple would be beyond me!  No need to explain much more than that because it will start a debate.

Family dynamics are funny and all over the place!

Is this idea a change from the family only/bridal party only wedding?

I didn’t do this but hell I’m 1 person pissing me off away from doing it without a care in the world for anyone else’s feelings about it!  I’m seriously contemplating getting secretly married at the courthouse a few days before just so I can feel like I had control over something related to my wedding!

@Galang_Gyal:  I can see you’re putting a lot of thought into this!  Just think of it as one item to check off before you’re actually married.  Explaning will get into the negotiation stages – so smile and be a broken record!  Whoever can crush a similing happy bride would be a cruel person!

I feel a little silly because I’ve changed my plan like a million times since getting engaged

We totally did too.  We had it 3 different countries and 5 different US states at one point.  I planned like 4 weddings in all by now!  Plans jumped all over the place.
I did update some people about it.  Like my mom always wanted to go to Orcas Island, so for a while the wedding was there since the ILs have a house on the water where my mom could stay.  Then my mom said she couldn’t fly – go on without her, so we moved it.  We put it there for her!  It would have worked for us, but it wasn’t our first choice.

@rozzy:  good for you – don’t tempt me! I know I shouldn’t get married out of spite… 😉
