were you excited or annoyed to change your last name to your SO/DH?
I will tell you that I was excited, I was proud to be Mrs.P…I felt like I also have a new identity and felt like I was starting fresh. Does that sound weird? LoL
How about you all? Excited? Annoyed? (I know the process to change it can be a little annoying but it didn’t bother me too much)

I was happy to change my name to my husband’s. I don’t understand the poll, though, lol.

Excited to in 8 months! And very proud to be his wife.

- Wedding: July 2014 - Prague
I am sort of both.
The idea of the red-tape and paperwork I’ll have to go through (I have dual citizenship, so it’s TWICE the drama) makes me have a stomach ache.
But I will sound like a Soap Opera character with my new name, so that makes me laugh. And I’ve been an independent person all my life. I think changing my name will be more meaningful than I ever expected.
(for the record, I’m mainly doing it to please my FI. He deserves it. :))

Both! I was really excited to be Mrs. P too 🙂 But I was married years ago, and changed my name then…and then changed it back again after divorce. The whole process is an annoyance, but now that it is done I am happy. If anything were to ever happen that resulted in Mr. P and I breaking up I wouldn’t go through the struggle of changing back to my maiden again. But that isn’t going to happen anyway!

@Sunfire: +1, to all of this

I’m happy to change my name, but changing every piece of identification is going to be a pain in the ass, I won’t lie.

I’ve been married before so I know what a pain it is to change my name and I am not looking forward to it. If it wasn’t so important to my husband I would keep my maiden name just to avoid the crap that goes with changing my name to his.

@Daizy914: I’m excited, a bit apprehensive, and a little sad. Let me explain:
Happy- We’re going to be married! A family unit! With our last name on the mailbox! Yay!
Apprehensive – What do you mean I have to fill out all these forms?!
Sad – My last name is going to die out of my family because the only people in my generation with our name are all girls. I love my last name, so this is sad for me. 🙁
FI did say we could consider using my last name as a middle name for one of our kids. We both agreed to use it if we have a boy because it sounds very masculine.

You poll answers don’t really work with your question, but I was very happy. It was quite a process, and I still find my maiden name on a lot of items, but it was great, and I love it.

@canarydiamond: +1… Looking forward to it, but not looking forward to the process!

- Wedding: March 2014 - A castle!
@Daizy914: I’m excited to change my last name! But it will be a bit of an annoyance bc I will have to change 2 car titles, the deed to my house, get a new passport and driver’s license, and change all my business cards. Probably get a new e-mail address.. and also change my name on all my credit cards and accounts for bills. Man… typing that out for the first time is a bit scary w/ the amount I have to do!
ETA: Just saw this website and now I’m having a mild panic attack.

I was initially very excited… But by the time everything was said and done amost three months later, I was just irritated and frustrated by all of the paperwork!
At one point I went to the RMV (The DMV if you don’t live in a hipster state) with my pre-filled out paperwork… And waited in line for 3.5 hours! Sitting on the floor! Pregnant with morning sickness!
It was pretty awful.

@Daizy914: I am incredibly excited about it!! It’s the first thing I plan on doing after the wedding. I like the name I have now but I am certainly looking forward to making the change and moving forward in life with my new husband. I am excited to share his name! He is very excited about it too.
