My understanding is that the 1st fitting is primarily for them to pin the hemline and figure out the bustle (at least that is what happened for me)! They told me they would wait until the 2nd fitting to start considering taking it in (even though it obviously needed it when I tried it on the 1st time). They do this because they know that most brides will either lose or gain a few pounds in the time inbetween fittings!

I wasn’t very excited either (because I was terrified I wouldn’t fit into the dress), but once I got there, saw it and got to try it on (and it fit!!)…boy oh boy did I get damn excited! 🙂

I didn’t do my first fitting until 6 weeks before the wedding.

I wasn petrified after my first fitting, because I didn’t realize how HUGE my dress was on me until she started pinning it! It freaked me out because I was afraid she wouldn’t be able to make it fit right. But it looked so much better by the second fitting when all that extra fabric was gone and it would actually stay up on its own!

I’d wait on the fitting – especially if you are planning to lose more weight.  My wedding is in March and my dress just came in but they refused to schedule my first fitting before December.  First is right after xmas, second is 6 weeks later/6 weeks before wedding and last one is 2 weeks before wedding.
