@WillyNilly:  Well they suck for passing over someone as awesome as you. It’s their loss. I would be bitter too if my boss suggested I go for it and then I got passed over for it. I’d probably make myself feel better about it by throwing some cuss words around, eating some cheesecake and then watching trashy tv.

Are you happy in your current role? If yes consider it a blessing (despite the silly boss who got your hopes up)

If not, then this is your sign to bide you time, plan your wedding and when you are ready find a new job.

Being passed over does not mean you are not worth the promotion, but does mean you progression at that particular company is nearing an end (especially since they asked you to apply for it) or you may have the next promotion (but really, do you want it at this point?)

@WillyNilly:  I would tell him to grow a pair. Or maybe not because he would be my boss. But I would definitely be thinking it.

I’m sorry. Do you think there’s little chance for another such opportunity down the line?

Sounds like you have more than enough reason to move on and up!

@WillyNilly:   I had the exact same thing happen to me last year and yup, it’s shit. I’m still in the job though (too chicken to leave)!
