So tonight was the night…. My first (and only!) trip to try on dresses. Let me tell you, in the weeks leading up to this night I was TERRIFIED to go shopping! I’m quite self conscious and felt like nothing could ever possibly look good on ME! You see, I have quite the set of love handles. Even in my much thinner days they would always stick out! Over the years I’ve gained a considerable amount of weight and they’ve GROWN (Along with my mid section in general!!). I knew I always wanted some sort of form-fitting dress but immediately ruled it out and figured A-line would be the only match for me. Essentially the whole time leading up to tonight I set my expectations so low assuming everything would look bad so my dreams wouldn’t be crushed. I was definitely selling myself short!
When I got to the salon (for all the Ontario brides out there I went to Bliss Bridal in Whitby) the sales girl was so ridiculously sweet and immediately put me at ease. Long story short, the 4th dress I tried on was The One!
I want all of you future dress shoppers to know that wedding dresses are so structured and flattering! I didn’t believe my other friends who had all gone through it. They truly help suck you in and highlight your curves!
Finally, here is my dress! It’s the ‘Quincy’ by Sottero & Midgely. It felt ‘me’ with an added oomph! The dress is shown in gold but I ordered it in ivory. It was also a lace-up back which I’m not a huge fan of but they also had a zipper option so I went with that! To top it off it was ridiculously under budget too! Yay!
Anyone else have irrational fears of dress shopping?

It’s gorgeous on you, I love it! I actually have a similar body type to you and ordered a maggie dress, they are definitely very well-made 🙂

Congrats on finding the one!

I love how it fits you! And all that sparkle, beautiful…. There is a dress on a hanger in your first picture, looks like a copy cat of my Jim Hjelm 8962 just with a lace top. Did you try that one as well?

I love your dress! I’m also a maggie bride & curvy so thought a line was the only option but instead I’m wearing the divina! I think us plus size girls look amazing in figure hugging styles x

OMG…I LOVE THAT DRESS! It is on my favorites list and one I would like to try on…eventually.
I am horribly scared to dress shop. I have an appointment on January 3, 2015 to force myself to shop. I am trying to lose a bunch of weight beore then but terrified I wont do it and that I will be sad and feel ugly.
Thank you for sharing your experience and your lovely dress! You look fantastic ^_^
