I would say that the first six months have been tough. Not tough 24/7, but definitely one of the rockier times in our relationship. After 7 years together, I never expected the whole bit about the first year of marriage being the hardest. It’s not marriage itself that’s tough, it’s just all the things life threw at us immediately afterwards.

He got sick on our honeymoon, he was extremely stressed and in danger at his job. He ended up leaving the job and being unemployed. I got pretty sick, his brother got laid off, my grandpa passed away, and then DH got a new job (yay!) but has been away from home (boo!) The stress of it all got to both of us and we had the biggest fight in the history of our relationship.

Although, I think we’re over the hump now. He is settling nicely into the new job, it’s providing us with a much better financial future, we’re seriously talking babies, my job is stable… There are lots of blessings. Like I said, never expected the first six months to be so bumpy.

I wouldn’t consider it hard, but we certainly had a lot of changes and decisions to make. Thankfully, they were positive ones! In our first year of marriage, we did the following:

    – Got our first apartment

    – DH had recently moved back to our hometown, so he was looking for a job (which he got one about 3-4 months into our marriage).

    – We bought a new car

    – Found out we were expecting our first child

    – Bought a house and moved…again.

    – I started a new job (same place, different job, more responsibility)

Those are the first few that come to mind :-). Like I said, they weren’t bad by any means, but some were certainly stressful and difficult in the decision-making process.
