You’re overreacting by a mile. For all you know, he wasn’t really intending to ask you anything about your hearing ability or disability, and only said “I was going to ask you about that” as a way to acknowledge what you’d told him without commenting on it. People do that alllllllll the time. It’s just a figure of speech, like being hungry enough to eat a horse or wanting to die of embarrassment.

+1. EXACTLY. You hit the nail on the head. His comment did leave a bad taste in my mouth and I still feel like it was unprofessional of him to say that.
I understand that the majority of people think I’m overreacting and I am. I don’t dispute that. Should I let it bother me like this? No. And I’m not letting it, not anymore.
But I am still really surprised by some of the responses here. Some of the responses have been really rude in that they can’t believe I was upset over this. Is it really so hard to understand where I’m coming from?
But I guess most of you have not had to deal with discrimination in the workplace based on disabilities.
Is what he said borderline illegal? No. Now that I’ve had more time to think about this, I no longer think that it was illegal.
But unprofessional? Absolutely.
