    My little guy was 3 days early. I didn’t want to have an epidural, but the contractions were really hurting and I could not relax myself and felt panicky. When they told me I was 4cm, and on average it takes 2hrs per centimeter, I decided to get the epidural – I did not think I could manage 12 more hours of contractions. The next time they checked me (about 2 hrs later) I was at 8cm. Nurses said sometimes the epidural makes you move faster because you aren’t in pain and won’t fight your body as it progresses.

    My baby arrived exactly one week past her due date.

    @runsyellowlites:

    I frequently have to bite my tongue about this!

    A girl I work with was due on Saturday (2-9). Last week she already had her induction scheduled for tomorrow (2-12). No medical reason, she just said since the due date passed the baby should come out.

    I’m not just singling her out, she’s just the most recent example. The same story has played out with probably 80%+ of people I’ve known that have had babies in the last few years.

    I strongly beleive in, for healthy pregnancies, letting the baby come out when the baby is ready to come out! I see absolutely no reason for a healthy mother with a healthy baby to force the baby out on a certain day just because it’s convenient for the mother!

    @abbyful:  Same here. I completely understand society’s stance on “My body, my choice” BUT it absolutely sickens me when I see moms getting elective inductions based totally on their edd and end up with cesareans or hemorrhages that could’ve EASILY been avoided. And the worst part is most of the time they see their complications as “oh well…. that’s just how birth goes, anything can happen” when that is likely not the truth for their case.

    I could pull my hair out just thinking about it! UGH!

    My mom was 2 weeks late with me and was in labor for 26 HOURS!!  I really thought with DS I was going to be the same.  I went into labor on my due date, and he was born right after midnight that night (total of 10 hours).  I am hoping I will be as lucky with this new baby.  My due date is in the same week as DS’s birthday 🙂
