Hi ladies. Can you tell me if your “IT” dress was the one you had envisioned wearing for your wedding? Even though I bought my IT dress and I don’t have dress regret, I sometimes think about all the other dresses that I thought I had wanted instead. For me, it was something completely different. My IT dress is NOTHING like the dresses that I thought I wanted. In fact, I wouldn’t have even looked at it if my consultant didn’t suggest that I try it on.

I didn’t picture a specific dress, just a specific style. Yes, my dress ended up being that style.

I always wanted a mermaid gown, but ended up with a ball gown.

Yup! It was the only one I tried on, picked from the model photo on the internet. Bridal salons make me claustrophobic, so I got pretty lucky with my first choice 🙂

There are so many beautiful dresses out there, and while I looked online before I tried anything on, I made sure I didn’t focus on one style because sometimes the dress is just meant for that stock photo, and not for my body. I had an idea of the silhouette (a-line), but that was about it. I ended up finding a lace a-line with a sweetheart neckline. Love it!

My dress was something completely different than what I thought I wanted. I found this one and was looking for that general style. (ETA: I tried this dress on, but I can’t find the picture of me in it, so I knew what it looked like on me before making my final decision.)
The one that I ended up getting was completely different. This one was a gorgeous dress but a little too glam for me. My dress is still a Maggie Sotero, but I can’t remember the name of it right now. Here’s a picture.
This one is so much softer and romantic, definitely more me than the original design I was looking at. And I love the soft details on it.
Ultimately, I am SO glad with my final decision. 🙂

PS sorry those pictures are so big… can’t figure out how to resize them small enough…

I honestly had no idea when I went looking, and I kinda thought a lot of styles were nice, so I just sent all the pictures to my mom and asked her honest opinion of which style looked the nicest and didnt make me look fat or have huge hips (those darn hips of mine!) and when I figured out which style suited me best, I found the IT dress! But I might be a weird case, but I had no images in my head or preferences before I went looking.

I had a style in mind and knew I wanted lots of sparkle. I hadn’t picked the dress out just had lots of ideas of what I wanted. My “it” dress was exactly what I had in mind.

Honestly, yes. I really wanted Mori Lee 6703, but I would have had to go an hour+ north to get to a salon that carried it (I was working 6 days a week at the time). I tried on a bunch of dresses that were not like it at all (a couple exaggerated a-lines/ballgowns, a few trumpet/mermaids), and then my dress, and I loved it. Everything else was pretty, but too much/too heavy/too big/etc. I knew it the minute I grabbed it off the rack, but I wanted to try on other stuff, too.

I had NO clue what I wanted or liked until I went to the store to try them on. I am glad that I didn’t have an ideal in my mind of what I wanted, because I might have missed out on my totally awesome ( IMO) dress!

Not even close. Pretty much total opposites.
The kind of dress I thought I’d be wearing:

It was different. I was looking for a short knee-length dress… in fact I had my heart set on a particular one for years. Then, when I started looking at dresses after we got engaged, I saw a beautiful high-low dress from Max Chaoul. I thought that COULD be the one, but when I tried to imagine it on me all of the frill didn’t look or feel like me at all… and I guess it wasn’t sexy enough for me, either. (I wanted a hint of sex!) I kept looking for high-lows, and eventually found the one I KNEW was mine. Not to frilly, not too sexy.
